You feel free to rant, lots of things to get frustrated about in this bizarre, materialistic, look-obsessed wold we live in!

I'll put it like this, and then leave because it's not something I feel that passionately about (and I'm terrible at arguing).

I'm happy with myself, who I am, how I look and what people think of me. I also LOVE nice Omegas. Stupid, over-engineered things to measure something that humans invented.

If I was not happy with myself, I'd spend every penny on Omegas and max finance on a car. Blokes would chat to me about my watch and give nods as to my nice car; my confidence issues, no matter what the cause, would be appeased.

Women don't really work like that. Hell, who knows how they work. However, physical appearance is more important, that a Cartier Tank. Boobs may give them that confidence, and let's face it, your body, which is a big part of who you are, is more important than a bit of tin to transport you about.

You talk about overweight people...what's more interesting, a fat person climbing out of a Merc convertible, or an attractive woman just walking past you in the supermarket pushing a buggy?

It's worms, in a massive can - tackle the causes by all means, no matter what small attempt it is, but of you are a decent person like I'm sure you are, then you will be doing this through your every day actions, however, like I say before, at the same time let peope do what gives them confidence, in this crazy world ๐Ÿ™‚

I think that's the longest thing I've ever posted!

Bearnecessities, your main point (at the end) had been taken on board and is actually very crucial for me to remembr in my real word.

Two of my exs had surgery. The first was a reduction. We'd been out many tears before when she was early 20s and they were fab. 15 years later, I met her again and she'd had a reduction. They were actually too big and she could have gone down another size or two.

The other ex had them and they looked great in a dress, a bit too perky out of a dress. No complaints from either of us. The weirdest thing was hugging her in the depth of winter. Her boobs took longer to warm up than the rest of her. Like hugging somebody with two bags of frozen peas under her jumper. Bit odd.

Both had some small scars. Both seemed pretty happy. I was. They both believed the right thing was to enhance them. Don't go up or down too many sizes. Otherwise it all gets out of proportion. I'd agree.

[can of worms] it's OK for you guys, you're not under the pressure that some women can be.

Have you either
A) seen a blokes magazine in the last 5 years? The Johny Vegas look is out and Johny Wilkinson abs and arms are in. Protein shakes are now popular enough they've made it into the inflation calculating shopping basket!
B) Seen any porn? The boobs are definitely not the thing furthest from 'average'.
C) Stumbled into a "should I wear Lycra?" thread on here.

tinas - serious question, how many blokes buy those mags? I thought mag sales were down. As regards p0rn my inbox has e-mails promising me a bigger willy, shall I forward them to you? ๐Ÿ˜‰ They're clearly no use to me!

That mag cover made me chuckle but seriously?? Actually don't believe that.

Post up a thread asking whether you should do crossfit or stronglifts and tell me it's not become popular :-p

Perhaps we should all go naked for a couple of months - then the whole body issue would be put into perspective after day or two of embarrassment. Whenever you see naturists programmes you wonder how/why they want to take their clothes off at first - but that's the point, boobs, dicks, abs don't matter. It's just flesh, so what?

Turn the TV off and ignore the mags. It's all bllx if you will pardon the expression.

The whole cover makes Clarkson seem subtle. It's one massive piss take. Is it a mock up or a real cover?

Please tell me no one really thought for even a nanosecond that it was a real cover!

Especially you, CG! You're far smarter than that! ๐Ÿ˜‰

One friend lost sensation in the nipples. That sounds like WAY TOO MUCH OF A RISK to me.

Definitely, a compromise too far!

Hey Cap'n, did say that I didn't believe it. ๐Ÿ™‚

[can of worms] it's OK for you guys, you're not under the pressure that some women can be. Perfect body equals perfect life as does perfect hair etc etc. It's self-esteem that needs to be worked on, ideally at home but definitely in school. Everybody is good at something but many never work out what that is.

Sure, there's no size-related pressure from society on men at all. Oh wait.

Anyway. Guys want to look good to impress the ladies. Women want to look good to impress other women. There's a common denominator here.

It's "ok for us guys" because, broadly, we don't give much of a toss one way or the other. We're unlikely to be sat in the pub gossiping about the shocking state of Dave's abs, or reading about the headline story of Beyonce eating a cream cake in the latest issue of Intellectually Devoid Monthly.

As a wise computer once said, the only way to win is not to play.

cougar you are on thin ice, bordering misogyny. Besides men like to impress men, it is about intimidating them out of the way.
I have overheard a group of musclemarys talking about me in exactly the same way after an aborted gym visit. (fat gut, man boobs, 6 chins)

You accuse me of misogyny and then come out with "Musclemarys"?

Thought about this, haven't you.

Do we? Is THAT where I've been going wrong?

Misogyny? Er, what? Stereotyping perhaps but a long way from active hatred IMO.

Cap'n, I was caught by the first glance as these mags never fail to surprise on the awful side. But talk about being caught out, is the accusations of misogyny directed at cougar, a spoof too?

op. when 'she' goes to the clinic they will offer an implant so you get an idea of the feel
as rocketdog pointed out at the bottom of page one, thats how it feels before its used, it wont stay that way.

i believe its quite common for them to need replacing as the body effectively cases the implant in calcium.
so its four grand a go.

Ah well apologies I have my nomenclature wrong. I thought musclemary meant men who spend too long in the gym, turns out it means gay men who spend to long in the gym. OOps. Apologies, not meaning to be homophobic, just gymophobic.

Anyway don't get all upset, I was just joining in the discussion.I just thought this sounded a bit like blaming women

Guys want to look good to impress the ladies. Women want to look good to impress other women. There's a common denominator here.

It may not have been your intention, I wasn't trying to flame you, but perhaps you had not spotted how it might look. ie women being the common denominator in the whole pressure on your image thing. Just a thought is all. I actually really love you.

bigblackshed

Besides SOMEmen like to impress men, its about [s]intimidating them out of the way[/s] being a ****.

good point, both me and cougar should have been clearer about some men/women, I guess it is implied. [s]I agree, trying to intimidate other men is cockish. [/s]
Actually on reflection I dunno if I do. What people choose to participate in is their business, allowing yourself to be intimidated by others appearance is actually choosing to participate in the whole thing. As cougar said, if you don't play, you can't lose.

Victim blaming now? Keep digging.

People with self esteem issues don't just choose to end up like that.

hmm. a lot of 'what about the menz' in here. to say that men experience even a fraction of the social pressure that women do, about their appearance, is to display wilful ignorance.

yes men do experience some pressure - and it's increasing, sadly - but it's not built in from birth. you don't see someone complimenting infant boys by saying "ooh, don't you look pretty!". There's no male equivalent to the 'bratz' toys. You don't see people tweeting shit to older male TV ppl like David Dimbleby for being too ugly. You don't see male rape victims getting told that they wore shorts so they basically brought it on themselves. And don't let's get started on the racks of magazines like Heat which basically scrutinise women's bodies for every little fault they can possibly find, and point and laugh like playground bullies (and yes, i know that these magazines are only successful because of the women that buy them, but that's another argument)

point is that women are constantly told, from age 2 upwards, that their appearance is REALLY IMPORTANT and it takes a very strong woman to be able to shrug it all off and ignore it.

Men are judged very differently, on a load of different stuff - wealth, career, skills, looks, intelligence all form a part of it - but it's just not weighted towards that one single attribute in anything like the same way.

Which, being a bloke, is quite a relief, but the least we can do is try to understand and be sympathetic.

What me and cougar? He said the same thing, don't play, can't lose.
Anyway what twaddle, so if you feel pressured by society to have a boob job you are a victim? That is a load of arse. Your logic is deficient.
If you feel pressured by society to have a boob job, dress sparingly and get raped, then you are victim, a victim of rapists. Having a boob job is a choice, how you choose to dress or have your boobs enhanced is a choice, being raped is not a choice, don't demean a real campaign with your own need to score cheap points.
I agree that having low self esteem might not be a choice, but how you fix it is.

And PS did you miss my apology about the musclemary thing? I mean who the eff apologises on STw?

There is some real bollocks being sprouted on here.

CG men do feel challenges of the same sort, granted no where near as strong but it is increasing. Obviously real men don't care how they look or how muscular/fat they are, but an increasing proportion of us do. Just look at how the male grooming market has grown/been pushed recently, I for one don't care for that but have fallen fowl of how chaps such as Brad Pitt look and how the average bloke just doesn't.

Anyway back to the op. My Mrs wants hers done but I don't think she needs them doing. I am perfectly happy with how they are. This doesn't matter to her because she isn't happy with them. As for whether she wants them done to impress other women or to make herself feel better is a question only she can answer. She certainly doesn't need to do them to make me happy, hopefully she doesn't want to impress other men.

Had my hands on a couple, dreadful things, proper turn off to me, albeit they both looked ok.

A woman comfortable with her body is way more sexy, tragically/understandably less and less common.

I was being slightly tongue in cheek there although you seem to be equating the term 'victim blaming' with a single issue rather than as a general term.

My point stands though, yes the boob job is a choice but the (potential) underlying reason isn't.

I find it quite disturbing though that you automatically equate boob jobs and how a woman dresses with her likelihood of being raped. A whole other issue to that being discussed but that sort of crap needs to be knocked on the head.

Doris - you also don't see male rape victims being taken half as seriously as their female counterparts. Actually, for every one of your points there is an equal (and often opposite) counterpoint. For example, for every Bratz or Barbie you have an Action Man or GI Joe. I'm not making this into a male rights thing, I'm just saying that it's all a part of the same problem, that men are supposed to be this and women are supposed to be that and it should ALL be dealt with.

Ride on the road much? It's a whole bloody gossip shop of 'he's too fat'/'he's lost loads of weight, must be hitting the PEDs'/'his overshoes/gloves/helmet/hair don't match his shorts/armwarmers/socks'....

I dont understand why ladies want boob jobs.

have you tried...listening to/reading what women that have done it have to say about it?

you're unlikely to get enlightenment from three pages of men's opinions. special mention to the guys posing as anti body fascists and then saying "implants are disgusting, women shouldn't get them". you haven't really though that through, have you?
