Ahoy! It's Friday, so time to look at something nice. Please post a picture or two or three of any sort of water-based vessel that impresses you. It could be an historic tall ship, a modern frigate, an RNLI power boat, or even a Great Lakes cargo ship.

It doesn't matter, so long as it's a good picture that you like, and you think it will brighten our day.

I hadn’t realised she had more than 2000hp  no wonder she could sail around, essentially flicking the Vs at the fleet

First ship I sailed on... real rust bucket. But she didn't miss a beat 10 years up and down the North Atlantic between Quebec and Rotterdam.

Still sail one of these in Cowes Week every year..

The best One Design Sportsboat ever made.. I miss racing these things full chat.. Melges24

Because flat chat in the Southern Ocean is Awesome...

Because this image is just amazing... Fuji Tri off Ushant..

For shits n giggles..

Because the designer changed the ethos and all followed suit.. and because Maxi Cup racing is simply Awesome...

And because my Crusader is sitting in the dinghy park unused...

Every one behind the helm!!! Sydney Hobart, crossing the Bass Strait isn't for everyone.. I did it in 2006 on a 60ft'er and it was one of the hardest most mentally concentrating challenges I've ever done.. it is just relentless and full chat all the way over... cross tides, rips, howling wind, upwind/downwind, full sail and storm jibs all in less than 24hrs.. it has it all this race..

Every one behind the helm!!!

Why's'at then? (Serious Q, I know nothing about sailing. I once pushed a Mirror dinghy halfway round Lake Bala with my scouting mate, cos we didn't know how to sail it back after crossing with the wind behind us)

Keep all the weight in the stern to stop the bow burying itself in the back of the next wave, at full chat the boat slows dramatically and the rig takes all the strain... sometimes a few things snap 😜

Have a look at the footage, you see the guys all behind the helm and you’ll notice the motion of the boat over the waves, certainly the Brunel Drone vid shows this and the S/Hobart vid you get the same descriptive motion..

Couldn't tell you how much I loved this boat as a kid. Still got the framed poster of this picture, and one of me sat on the front in 1988 with Virgin in sodding massive lettering beneath me.

I used to sail a Hoby 18 as a kid (google picture, not me)

Used to take it out to jump waves like this, we headed out to play when everybody else was going in, good fun, very wet

On a completey different track, but still a boat

Which is currently moored up in plymouth sound, or at least it was when I went past it a while back.

Just got off a 4 day research cruise in the med, 24m catamaran that corkscrewed like a bitch. Happy to be back on terra firma again.

gobuchul - funnily enough I occasionally drive a dive boat with 2 of them.  I love watching the fuel consumption meter and being happy it's not me paying

Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

I have their baby brother, a F100 on mine. It's a superb piece of kit.
