Go to their weather website: Headline Hurricane Irene threatens New York on Sunday. Select the forecast for New York: Thundery showers, wind Westerly 17mph. ๐Ÿ™„

they probably get them from the MET office or the US equivalent. the only other one which is of an internationally recognised high standard is the japanese one.
there are other private ones, however i doubt the beeb use them.

i'll notify my friend that they (the MET office) have it wrong ๐Ÿ˜‰
