Hi All,

As per the title really, and due to my last question on cakes being answered so well, my cakes are rise better! (thanks!)

I'm after a/some books that have designs/recipes in for some impressive looking cakes, it's my fiance's birthday coming up so need to do something with a bit of wow factor, unusual recipe's are also good!

As always, thanks in advance,
JT

I'd recommend this from Hummingbird Bakery. Excellent recepies and not complicated to make. There are quite a few cupcake recepies in it but they do multiply up to make a normal sized cake.

If you really want to push the boat out then try this but be prepared to put a lot of effort in unless you are use to more involved baking.

Emsz, have you been watching the great british bake off? A lot more entertaining than we thought it would be, though Jason was robbed.
An more than a few issues with Mary Berry cakes.. as in pretty damned easy to go wrong by the looks of things.

Is there a specific Mary Berry cake book (bible) that should be bought? In all honesty I'd never even heard of her previously... I'm not after fancy cakes or decoration, just good honest scrummy cakes..

Mary Berry's ultimate Cake Book, I think it's a BBC one.

I've not done them all, but if you can follow a recipe, then generally they're OK, I also use one she's written called Cook a Feast or Cooking up a feast? something like that, has awesome carrot cake recipe. 8)

We've got a Good Housekeeping book -- it's a general cookery book but there's a good cake section in there. It's not rocket surgery, really -- make cake roughly the right shape, cover in icing, add details in marzipan.
