If you were buying tyres to go on the 20" wheels of an electric car, what would you get? The car will be raced on a racing circuit, aiming for most laps in 90 minutes from a standardised set of batteries so looking for lowest rolling resistance.
slicks pumped to 100000 psi.
Hookworms or maybe a gusset pimp.
What's the weight and projected speed?
Sounds fun - any more details?
It's a Greenpower 24+ car. The car's about 50kg, plus the student who will be driving it. We've heard tell of 30mph...
That looks like great fun. ๐
I suggest getting in touch with Schwalbe. They have done extensive rolling resistance testing.
I think I might need to have a little go, just to make sure it's safe ๐
I think I'll point the students at http://www.schwalbe.com/gb/rollwiderstand.html
IIRC Michelin have produced tyres exactly for this type of thing, stupidly low rolling resistance slicks. They sponsored an Eco-run event for a while, might be worth looking into?
The Schwalbe Tryker tyres are designed for trikes etc. So have a squarer profile, which should give less rolling resistance etc. They are rated for electric bikes at up to 50km/h.
These look interesting http://www.schwalbe.com/gb/tour-reader/energizer-solar.html
Some great suggestions, thanks everyone.
If the wheels aren't faired aero efficiency will be mighty important
I took part in green power last year,
I used rubena tyres (can't remember which model) they were 20 x 1.5 I think and we ran them at the maximum rated psi, about 60 I believe.
Tracking needs to be spot on,and good aeros make a huge difference.
The tyres were slick too
