Anyone got any recommendations for a bag / cover I can put my bike in to save the cars interior?

Bike is placed in the car with the front wheel off.

I just use a big old blanket. Doubles up for picnics, working on the car/kneeling on gravel, and keeping warm if get stranded because one too many (booze) and/or one too few (house key) 😆

The blanket idea sounds good.
I use a fairly big cheap blue tarp folded in half.
A painter’s dust sheet? They’re fairly tough.

Not cheap. I've two of these I use in the house and when taking the bike away. Add pedal covers if using flats to stop the pins causing issues.

I use one of these:

Car boot liner

Really pleased with it and easy to clean.

A painter’s dust sheet?

+1. I’ve used one of those also, but found that a blanket will protect car and bike from scratches also. ie pedal pins will poke happily through a dust-sheet but not so much with a thick blanket. A big dark blanket will also cover all the (visual) pokey-out bike bits if you need to park up and leave unattended. This can deter opportunistic scrotes.

Blackout curtain liners. Bigger and more waterproof than you'd imagine. Really tough too. Surprisingly cheap.

Generally go with whatever is spare. Old shower curtain and and old duvet currently. If I needed, we also have some evoc bike carriers but they're actually more faff. Fortitude movers blankets are pretty cheap.

If you don't want to scratch the interior plastics, a set of noxsox are really useful. They'll save the trim from pedal gouges.

I got one of these for the exact same problem (and then got a second for my wife).
Much easier than a tarp, keeps everything neat and the wheels away from the frame etc. The zip opens wide enough to get the whole frame in (handle bars poking out). It's not the kind of bag I'd use on a flight etc. but great for the back of a car.

New king size winter duvets are £15 from Asda - just buy one of them.

IMO better than a taup as they 'soak' up any moisture/mud etc, rather than a puddle forming.

I use an old tent porch ground sheet to line the interior and a decorators dust sheet over the top of the bike.

Never thought about most of the ideas so thanks for the suggestions everyone.

That boot liner from Amazon looks promising as it has a boot lip protector aswell - perhaps combine that with a bed sheet.

As is the way for STW, recommend what you have:

An old horse rug, thick winter waterproof one. The buckles had broken so I cut them off. Works a treat, low cost no cost!

that Zellar thing looks brilliant ^

if you ever find yourself wanting to carry two bikes (or more), eg taking a friend's, old duvet is the perfect separation layer between them

I just bought a king size undersheet from John Lewis. Use it for bikes in boot, decorating etc - really useful.

I used to use a hatchbag - bike chucked in book for about 4 years - took it out recently to sell the car & it was fresh as a daisy underneath it.

£5 tarp from ebay (my first ever ebay purchase in 2002 🙂 ) and an old curtain between the bikes when there's 2 of them. I have got a cheapo boot liner from ebay which was great, velcroed to the car's carpet. Think it was £18, but I'm sure the 10X the price ones are so much better 😛

Removal blanket +1

Thick enough to soak up any water/mud/oil, and keeps sharp bits of bike/car from poking through and marking the other.

If I had a nicer car I'd get one of those hatchbags or similar though.

I have a rubber boot liner plus a sort of canvas one to cover the seats when they told down, these both stop any water or mud dripping down onto the car. I then have a few bits of heavy duty fabric to cover other areas or wedge in gaps to stop rubbing(a big and a few smaller is useful). Material will fold better than plastic and past longer, I also keep a few short pieces of pipe lagging in my boot to slide on to forks or frame to stop any rubbing on fragile areas

In typical STW fashion of recommending what you got

Hatchbag fitted in my boot all year round, expensive at £200 but the carpets and back of the seats underneath it are still like new, plus it has a bumper flap to stop the bumper getting damaged

Winter time the bike goes in a large Hippo bag then slid in to the boot, this stops all the mud and water coming off the bike and making a mess of the Hatchbag which then needs to be cleaned

The hippo bag is easy to clean, turn inside out and hose off then allow to dry till its next use
