[#11045610]

Left my bike IN work yesterday as I was going for a meal for my birthday.

Got in this morning and there's 2 paving slabs by the back door and people were saying we got broken into last night but the cops said nothing was taken and just put it down to crim damage. Anyway, a colleague said she moved my bike into one of the docs offices. Except it was someone else's bike. Looking at the CCTV around 230am someone dressed in black, hooded up, picked up two pavers, smashed a window over the course of around 40 mins. Wandering back and forth, eventually sticking his hand through the broken window, opening the door, running inside, and running out with my bike in about 30 seconds! What a birthday treat! It's insured, but that's not the point. As you may know, or not, I lost my license for 6 months so have been doing heaps more cycling, to and from work, dropping kids off and picking them up. Honestly, I'm just gonna buy a lotto ticket on Saturday. FML!!!

Lol... thanks but I'm in Aus.

Was a 2015 Trance with virtually everything upgraded and new enduro bearings.... Gutted. I spent heaps on it, time and effort, tools etc. It's insured for 4k (aussie dollars) so I've put in an insurance claim and taken to footage to the cops, but you really cant see anything but a dark figure. Bike was a 40th birthday present and I've spent a fair bit, new wheels, forks, groupset.

+1 on what wheels have you got at present?

Good luck with the lottery...

Cheers bud. Fingers crossed. Lord knows I've paid enough in extra policy covering my bike, they better pay out! As a backup I guess my work insurance may cover it? Having said that, a colleague got her car keys nicked from her office by a client and it wasn't covered!

Work won't cover anything - they screwed over a colleague when the secure cycle store wasn't secure - it's your responsibility. That said, as the bike was locked away in a building, you should be fine with your own insurance.

Crap thing to happen.

I'm not sure about work. A colleague got her satnav nicked after one break in. They paid that. Another colleague got her car keys nicked off her desk after a client was wandering round. Didn't pay that. I have to pay $100 excess so I'm hoping work will cover that. I think that's entirely fair (but thats only 50 quid in old money).

My bike was inside the office, not outside. Looks like the dude saw the bike before the PM shift went home at 10. The lights go off then. We have mirrored windows but when it's dark outside and the lights are on inside, the mirroring doesn't stop nosey parkers. He came back around 230am with a hammer, ripped up 2 paving slabs and smashed through a small window. In n out before the alarm kicked off. My daughter is gutted because she put a sticker on my bike and "the sticker has gone". Not fussed about my bike hehe

On the phone to the insurance now. Website says they usually cover claims in 48 hours. I'm off today and tomorrow. Annoyingly I pressed the wrong button on the phone and got through to sales in 0 seconds. They transferred me to claims and I've been on hold for ten mins. Not sure what the process is, if I go out and buy a new bike and they reimburse me, or they send me the money. All will be revealed.

Woohoo...

Bike shopping ahead!

Insurance company wanted pics of my bike and a list of the upgrades. They can either offer me a like for like replacement from pretty much any brand, or I can go bike shopping and find my own. Rather do this that have something picked for meas I'll need to have a look and try some out. Day off tomorrow, hopefully everything is "go" and soon to be new-bike-day.

Considering a new Trance 29er or a Stumpy ST 29er - I think the latter can run 29er or 27.5+ which is kinda tempting.

good news! Just be careful of the 'wait six weeks to give you time to replace it and then nick it again' trick.

Got a quote for a Stumpy which the guy says he can sort some flats out to go with. $4000 - 15o0mm Fox 34s, Sram 12 speed ?NX? Xfusion rear shock. Only thing I'm not keen on is the Guide R brakes (4 pots) as I hear they're not great but potential future upgrade I guess as I've always preferred shimano, but the bike comes with 200m rotor up front so I'd hope 200mm rotor and 4 pot would be fairly decent? Not keen on the 29er Trance at similar value tbh but it does come with full shimano slx bar the brakes which are Deore.

I'd hope work wasn't broken into again but it was the first time I'd left my bike there over night. Slightly belated birthday gift I guess. All's well.

I've got the 'normal' stumpy with these... i had similar reservations, and TBH they are great (well, were...i wore the pads and backing and rotor down..user error... and now they need a decent bleed)..
Stop really well with the big rotors, and felt they had more power than XTs (even XT 4 pots)

Fair enough. Appreciate the info. I'm not too hard on pads here as it's dry any dusty, not gloopy pad eating mud so perhaps they're more suited to my environment.

The bike "assessors" said the value of my old bike and kit could get me a Trance Advance 1 but here that's $6500 and I undervalued it's worth and only had it covered for 4k - luckily I'd upped it from 3 to 4k cover before Christmas.

Stumpy looks nice - grey with green lettering. Will check it out tomorrow and see what the crack is. They did also offer me a deal on the carbon stumpy but it's going to be more than my 4k will allow. Fingers crossed I can blag some decent flats not just the standard spesh ones....

I'm sure to be posting some pics tomorrow. Any of yours DrP?

A couple of pic of ours to keep you going

Built up from a second hand frame and bits from what we had in the garage. Brakes are saint calipers with XTR levers

[img] [/img]

Bought an ST on impulse just before Christmas for our daughter to thrash when Evans were selling them with £2000 off. Swapped some stuff out straight away including fitting Saint brakes.
The Guides are just waiting for me to get round to fitting the rear hose back on and bleeding before someone gets a bargain.

Glad insurance is sorting it, but it's for this reason I always lock my bike up in work.

At our old place, some scrote rode in on a beater (didn't show a pass, security was lax) and rode out on some fellas fancy (unlocked) pinarello.

Thankfully, you need an access card to get into the bike store now, and it's in the middle of the basement but I still lock it up.

Its a 29er 2.6 front 2.3 rear we run a couple of Turbo Levos in 650b+ but the rest are all 29er. Cant think of a reason to run the Stumpies in 650b+

Makes it a lot easier if we need to swap parts around

When I say "in work" it was actually inside the building which is alarmed and covered with cameras outside! Community mental health clinic. Nothing is sacred - I really didn't think I'd need to lock it, inside a locked building. Clearly I was wrong. It's happened before. (I've been wrong, not the building broken into).

Yay bike purchase! Bought the stumpy. Got a deal on some big platform xt pedals and they're converting the wheels to tubeless. Gonna give me a call in a couple of hours when it's ready. Need to set it up and check it over. Front cskuoer bolts were loose! Hurray new bike day gets me over losing my bike on my birthday!

Soooo

Xt pedals vastly improved by putting the long pins in. Think I still prefer my old Burgtec though. Moved the levers in a touch. Stock grips are cack. May invest in a frame wrap as I've got a couple of chips already. Shock n forks settling nicely. NX Eagle is Ace but I miss the index finger up - gear from my xt shifters. Bars at 800mm feel great but I may get some carbon upgrade but for now... Just ride. Oh... Breaks are great too. I'm very happy. Looking forward to hitting some dirt.

Nice!! What colour did you get?
For frame protection, have a look at the DYEDBro stuff....

I need some more pics of the bike now sporting for 36ers and CCDB air IL..

Kinda Matt grey with flour yellow wording. Last time I rode a 29er was an Enduro about 4vyears ago. Feels grand. I'll check out those frame protectors. Fairl easy solo job or bike shop for perfection?

Easy at home, but take your time...
hair dryer and the included scraper thing are necessary.
But....

Apply it to the frame 'cold' (i.e don't heat it up BEFORE putting on the frame), then heat it and contour it....

Hmm... Not sure I can do cold... It's been upper 30s the laat few days. Was baking today and had to do a mental health assessment with the cops this afternoon on someone who declined to get out of her car so we stood in the street for 45 mins... Baking!

Can't wait to get her on the dusty trails of WA. The bike is so quiet on the roads and paths. Not liking my old bike got nicked but pleased the insurance was sorted in a timely manner!
