14/15 is not very cold, it’s just chilly
Indeed. My house hasn’t been that warm at any stage since October.
I’m not sure having the heating really low actually keeps the bills down as much as you think
Really? My gas bill for the last quarter (Oct/Nov/Dec) was £45.
Energy is expensive. The only realistic way of cutting bills is to live in a colder environment and wear more clothes which is what I’ve chosen to do (not just this year, I’ve done it for the last 20 years)
Running the heating that low isn't comparable, you've basically set it to off. I'm comparing 16 degree v 19 degrees. Having it that cold isn't practical for households with young children/babies.
Close all the internal doors and just heat the rooms you’re in (upstairs, etc). A bit different with underfloor heating I guess but try things like heavy or thermal curtain tucked onto the window sill to insulate the windows and stop heat going up under them and out through the glass.
Draft excluders for doors, make sure boiler is working properly and isn’t old and uneconomical.
our fuel bill was huge this winter because it was so cold and the house we’re renting for winter isn’t very warm compared to the really well insulated new build we just left.
