The Deer Hunter is one of my favourite films, but it does have a marmite effect on people. Some people even think you're joking when you say it's a fave. "What that reeeeaaally loooooong [i]boring[/i] film where nothing happens for three hours until the decent Russian Roullette scene?"

Yes, in a co-dependent, desperate, alcoholic sort of way, I suppose that he did. I sometimes think that it's the most perfect film ever made. Story, script, locations/sets, actors, photography, editing and music - all just so brilliantly done.
