Got some Ergon bar ends on the carbon hardtail. Definitely adds hand positions and only negative is steep descents can be a little spicier

Yes but I've always liked functionality...secret! If you go into a bike shop and look behind the display of frame/handlebar/fuel etc bags they still have the wall to display of bar ends ...

Yep. Ergon GP3. I don’t use them for regular single track mountain biking where will normally use a 780mm flattish bar - yet do fit the bar-ends on installing a slightly narrower (and flatter) bar and longer stem for gravel-beasting and/or rough-stuff touring. Love ‘em to pieces. They give a nice rest-pos and most of all a great pistol-grip climbing position which (I believe) employs different/more effective muscle-groups, making a long climb dreamier not steamier 🙂

Use onza ones from the 90’s on riser bars, can’t imagine ever being without them, great for bashing through overgrown tracks.

I 'invented' inboard barends on my last day bike beach ride. Came back resolved to get busy with CAD software and a 3d printer.....then I saw this thread. On the down side, this time next year I'm not going to be a millionaire Rodney. On the upside I've ordered a set of those £9 jobbies and saved a few evenings on Fusion 360 and half a dozen prototypes.

Edit - oh, and actual bar ends on modern width bars - just no.
