^^^^^^^^ Thunder had a bit of success. Little Angels deserved more.

2 of my favourites from around the late 80s, early 90s were Cry of Love and Badlands. Badlands suffered due to too many egos in one band. Between that and grunge, they were never going to last long. Plus Ray Gillen dying of AIDS.......

For fans of earthtone 9 they are working on a new album, which maybe out by now. I got a single download from them which sounds good so may have to snap up the album.

Kerbdog were criminally underated IMO, his follow up band Wilt was also good but more of a pop bias to it.

I think I saw earthtone 9 when they played the Nexus in Southampton, but I might be wrong as the details from that period of my life are a little hazy 😉

Whoever it was they were pretty good!

Blimey, someone else who remembers six by seven! Got to try and find my cd singles and rip them into iTunes at some point.

Anathema should be much more popular than they are. Fair enough they came from the Doom Metal scene but now they are the best Prog' Rock band I've ever had the pleasure to listen to!

Also, the wife says... Skrillex

New model army +1, followed them round northern Europe in the mid 80's.
Talk talk +1
The the +1
I agree that some bands would have changed if the became bigger, some of the egos involved were big enough.
Would add

Alice in chains.

I believe someone mentioned the Blue Aeroplanes somewhere on here; they may be interested in this:
http://www.thefleece.co.uk/shows/view/united-kingdom/bristol/the-fleece/the-blue-aeroplanes
Turns out, and I didn't know this until a couple of minutes ago, the Aeroplanes bought The Fleece two and a half years ago!

Blue aeroplanes were good - in fact I've just stuck on You are Loved as we speak

Not sure if anyone mentioned the Wedding Present yet but they should have had way more success

The La's should have been much more successful but Lee Mavers threw it away... The Charlatans did have a peak of popularity between '95 - '97 for their eponymous forth album and Tellin' Stories, but deserved more success earlier in their career and to the present day. They have great material and play a great gig - especially since Tim Burgess quit the drugs and booze. I also think Black Rebel Motorcycle Club should have sold more records than they did. The Black Keys have got more successful as their output has decreased in quality - they used to be so much better.

Going right back I will never be convinced The Small Faces or The Seeds got the recognition they deserved and right now Cashier No. 9 should be really big.

I can never understand why Gemma Hayes isn't better known. Such a great voice, a terrific songwriter, and a thoroughly lovely person, an absolute sweetheart when you meet her. If ever anyone deserved to be huge, it's Gemma.
I've seen TalkTalk mentioned; they had several really big hits, but Mark Hollis and the rest of the band were almost wilfully uncommercial, going out of their way to make successive albums that had less and less commercial appeal, with long tracks having long periods of silence in them. Hollis's solo album is incredibly difficult to listen to, you never know just when he's actually going to sing, which makes you really twitchy.
Several bands that should have been better known, and some had a fair degree of radio one support; The Slingbacks, Linoleum, Nut, Drugstore, Screaming Trees, Scheer, and The Julie Dolphin.
Oh, and The Blue Nile were on 6Music with RadMac this week.
Dead Can Dance have a new album out as well.

Talk Talk were huge in Europe, same with the Church.

An old mate was really close with Mark Hollis and they used to have Duran Duran support them in Europe.

Suede should have been bigger but then they wouldn't have that indie rock niche'.

The Cult, great rock band like Def Leopard - appreciated in the U.S. and abroad than the U.K.

+1 for Gene.. as soon as they were labelled the new Smiths, they were doomed..
same as The Wedding Present, David Gedge has written some truly great songs, but they just don't get any airplay.. although they were in session on 6 music last week..

Anyone remember Ambulance Ltd from the mid 2000's ..? great first album, then disappeared..

+1 for Teenage Fanclub

Belle and Sebastian felt very overlooked despite moderate success
The Album Leaf is one "band" that I've not understood how they're not better known
In the electronica area, always loved Proem but I seem to be about the only person I know who knows them
Oh, and finally Onra, a really unique take on samples for hiphop.

Onra? Never heard of 'em. Will check out.

On an electronic music note, I think Culprit 1 deserves more recognition. Great stuff.

in an ideal world you would see a video by The Sound. Easily robbed of their place in history by U2.
Just how do you post a video?

Richard thompson. Quite simply the best singer/songwriter/guitarist we've ever had. I suppose his OBE meand recognition, but most people have never heard of him.

The Wildhearts/Ginger should have been/should be massive. His last pledge campaign for 555% showed what could be done without record co. support, and the current campaign looks like it's going to be awesome too.
