:(It really is a good job that the OP doesn't live in Germany. Where ever there is a bit of water in the summer it's usually surrounded by naked elderly Germans reading books, having a stroll or my personal favourite nude badminton. 😯

I always get changed after a long awayday ride as I sweat profusely and want to be as comfortable as possible driving home. Many of the car parks I/we use are not appointed with changing facilities. Occasionally they are in town centres. I try to be as discrete as possible (if nothing else available I will open both doors on one side of the car and stand between), but I'm going to have to be undercracker-less for a few seconds. I'm not 'Oh so British and bothered' about it, but at the same time I'm not strutting around in the bollocky either.

All boils down to standard life rules. Don't be a dick, and don't wave it around in public either.

Well now I'm giggling to myself thinking of nude Germans and their shuttlecocks.

Years ago I encountered the Munich Nude Association yearly bike ride along the river. That was a sight for sore eyes.

However, as Roter Stern says, there are generally lots of nudies running about in summer so not that unusual.

OP here

Seems a few of you jumping to conclusions. I made no mention of being offended by it. I just thought it was a little unusual.

And yes, a little bit 'entitled' by the guy. Not unreasonable for him to understand that some people present may have been offended and there are facilities (shower rooms and toilets) 50 metres away (or he could have used his car).

TBH, I'd agree that if there's facilities then there's little reason not to use them other than idleness.

However, I'm also in mind of Steve Hughes:

Why were you watching a man changing for long enough and with enough attention to recall the exact sequence of events? Generally if I see someone changing I look away to give them some privacy, rather than sit and watch the whole event unfold.

I can see why the OP was surprised if the gentleman had to unfold it.

Indeed. It sounds very much like a German at the seaside.

Well now I'm properly confused - you're not at all bothered by it, but you think it was entitled. Can I just check - what other things do people do which you're not at all bothered by which you think makes them entitled? Just want to make sure I don't do anything which [s]offends[/s] [s]bothers[/s] you think is entitled.

Not unreasonable for him to understand that some people present may have been offended

Ah, so it's offence by proxy? That explains everything.

and there are facilities (shower rooms and toilets) 50 metres away (or he could have used his car).

I have to admit I've visited there quite a lot, and never realised there were showers. Though if he wasn't planning on having a shower then there's no real benefit to him in walking over to them to get changed - and it's therefore only a problem at all because people are prudish.

The fundamental point here is that there's nothing inherently offensive about the human body. As pointed out above, mums ought to have already seen male bits, and children certainly aren't at all worried about seeing people naked (not until they get British prudishness brainwashed into them). He's just getting changed with no particular intention of showing off his body to other people, that's accidental - people don't seem to understand the difference between that and blokes deliberately showing off their bits.

Laws which explicitly don't apply in this situation, as I just explained.

From your link:

indecent exposure is the deliberate exposure in public or in view of the general public by a person of a portion or portions of his or her body

It is generally accepted, at least in western countries, that a naked human body is not in itself indecent.

In England and Wales, the offence of "indecent exposure" and other sexual offences were replaced by the more specific and explicit Sexual Offences Act 2003, section 66. Current laws apply only to genital exposure with intent to shock those who do not want to see them.

It's quite nice being naked in the open air... i reckon it's fine to whip the chap out when getting changed near the back of your car after a muddy ride...

And as has been said..if he was gesticulating towards other riders about 'how much fun he had' then that's not on, but a quick 'breeze of the twins and the big one' whilst fishing for pants is fine....

Nakedness is cool, I reckon..

(Though, that programme on naturism on CH4 the other day was not that nice to look at...more naked fit people needed there i reckon...)

the problem starts when you get one foot into your keks then snag the second foot in the material, fall over onto your back stark naked with a pair of pants hanging off one foot. Now, that is being discreet...

It's because of this, not having the best sense of balance in the world, that I sit down on the edge of my car seat to pull my cycling kit off, then pull on my clean dry gear, just standing up to get everything back into place.

And your point is?

Isn't it funny how it's always those with tiny bits who seem to want to get them out in public.

Last time I was at Symonds Yat after a cold session this guy does the naked car park change. Pretty normal practice, however he had the most gigantic penis I've ever seen! Like some sort of leviathan he'd picked up. It needed its own lengthy drying routine, and this is straight out of the freezing Wye!
Most of our crew are usually impersonating an almond hiding in wire wool on days like this.

Ah, so it's offence by proxy? That explains everything.

You seem 'hard of thinking' so I'll try my best to explain.

Yes there are other things which are not 'inherently offensive' but that can cause offence or irritation in the wrong context. For example I enjoy music of many types and am absolutely not offended by it. However somebody playing music loudly from their car stereo in a car park is offensive as it is them 'inflicting' their 'wants' on the many whether they want it or not. It's selfish, inconsiderate, impolite and well, behaving like a dick.

Offence by proxy? Well, as I've said I'm not offended by the nudity. However there may well have been others there who were or would have been if they'd seen it. I'd call that, at best, impolite from the guy as his actions had the potential to make somebody else uncomfortable in a public space. A potential that he should have reasonably been able to recognize. So although I'm not offended by his nudity, his thoughtless actions do irritate me
You seem 'hard of thinking' so I'll try my best to explain.

Classy start to your post, which enhances your point immensely.

So were you personally bothered by the chap "inflicting" his getting changed on other people or not? If you weren't personally bothered at all then your analogy fails, if you were then it's not really surprising that people are "jumping to conclusions", because those are accurate conclusions (though IDSWYDT with your final word 😉 )

QED - and given as pointed out what he was doing wasn't illegal and that the naked human body isn't inherently offensive, then so what if prudes get offended?

Good that we have another thing to add to the super-benevolent-not-bothered-by-anything-happy-with-the-world-stwer list of things we're all cool with... someone getting their kit off and displaying their wares to the wife & kids.

Forgotten most of the list, but there was leaving shoes on in a shared hallway, blowing dope smoke into the windows, cutting down your bushes... many more! 😆
aracer - but the naked rambler was prosecuted despite doing nothing more than walking around naked.

Arguably it was dodgy use of the law (and a lot of his arrests were in Scotland where the law is different from the FoD [some might argue the FoD has it's own law 😉 ]), though in any case AFAIK none of his convictions were under the Sexual Offences Act - I also note a case where he was cleared http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/6542329.stm (as always the very idea that incidental nudity might distress children is a bizarre one).

Certainly getting changed in a car park wouldn't result in any of the prosecutions he got.
displaying their wares to the wife & kids.

and right there we have where some people seem to be making a completely different interpretation of this blokes actions - from my understanding he wasn't even wandering around in the buff, let alone waggling it about on display.

FWIW all of your other examples seem reasonable things to be bothered about.

Ditto to Singlespeedstu... But I wasnt in the carpark at that time! TBH I'd be more discreet than the bloke in question, but not a lot more. Half the world have willies, I'm not sure what the problem is.

(On a related but clearly tangential note; does anyone else think that the contrast between our mega sexualised society and our societies attitude to nudity is odd?)

Someone playing music loudly is inescapable. It can be antisocial and keep people awake all night.

Someone not wearing trousers is readily avoided, simply avert your gaze ten degrees either way.

"...one had a stroke."

Dag nab it, this is my favourite joke and all I wanted to contribute to the thread, but done on p1. Hey ho.

The reason it's my favourite joke is that after surfing I often mention to my wife that a couple of old dears had wandered by whilst I was getting changed in the car park. One almost had a stroke, but the other was nowhere near quick enough. Guaranteed laugh, probably the timing. Anyway - to the OP - next time why not see if you can be quick enough?
