Victorinox 'Swiss Champ'. If I had to drop everything and leave with only one possession this would probably be the one. It could, I'm sure, just as easily be a Leatherman but I've yet to own one of those in order to compare.

I flew on the top deck of a 747 for the first time about 18 months ago. Boyhood dream fulfilled, but sadly old and tired these days. Aircraft have moved on.

And don't UKIP want to ban the buff?

However can I nominate the Gillette safety razor and all its copies?

62A/K is the place to be. Once turned down an upgrade to First, in an aisle seat, to stay in 62A.

You're right, though, planes have moved on. Sadly. There isn't the same frisson of going upstairs in a 380, and no matter how good the 350 and 787 are, they just lack that special something. 1A/K is the closest vies to sitting in the cockpit, just with a much better wine list.

Man who likes his window seat but also being able to get to the toilet overnight?

Sometimes one needs to join the Pile High Club! 🙂

But yes, window seat with the lockers, and easy to get up and take a [s]slash[/s] walk around for a while. 🙂 Upstairs is so much quieter, and better service, too.

For bonus points, pop downstairs for some crop dusting. 😈

Possibly an obvious one, but if there is any 'bit of kit' that deserves the word "awesome" it is this one...

Without it, humans would have hugged every coastline until they fell off the edge.

And this, still aghast at how all those numbers found thier way into such a small object..

@ julienwilson, if that's what I think it is, IE, the bottom one, then you win. My little pal (Mrs EGF) is linked up to 6 of them as I speak.

Not sure the Cheytac fits in with the other two above, but I agree it's a good piece of design and implementation.

For me , this:

Saw one in the flesh today and it was amazing.

How do you transport one of the most awesome machines ever made? Why, with one of these:

[img] [/img]

Dunno if it still is, but it used to be the largest self-powered vehicle in the world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crawler-transporter

The crawler-transporter has a mass of 2,721 tonnes (6,000,000 lb) and has eight tracks, two on each corner. Each track has 57 shoes, and each shoe weighs 900 kg (1,984 lb). The vehicle measures 40 by 35 metres (131 by 114 ft). The height from ground level to the platform is adjustable from 6.1 to 7.9 m (20 to 26 ft), and each side can be raised and lowered independently of the other. The crawler uses a laser guidance system and a leveling system to keep the Mobile Launcher Platform level within 10 minutes of arc (about 30 cm (1 ft) at the top of the Saturn V), while moving up the 5% grade to the launch site. A separate laser docking system provides pinpoint accuracy when the crawler-transporter and Mobile Launch Platform are positioned in the VAB or at the launch pad. A team of nearly 30 engineers, technicians and drivers operates the vehicle.

Tell me that's not awesome.
