JulianA, has to be said mines only had sensor issues so far. The Air Con radiator sensor failed in the summer and I've just had the Air Sensor replaced on the intake feed.
I absolutely love it. It's been a total indulgence and I've enjoyed every minute of driving and owning it.
@ cr500dom - very interesting. I'll let my father know - I don't think he ever asked (or they wouldn't tell him). I once remember riding in the back with my sister as we set off across country to Alton Towers. The 205 1.9 GTi just couldn't shake the old barge....

Sounds as though you've had a good time with the TT then bikebouy. Good to hear and I might be tempted in future then - since all TTs are quicker than mine. Do like having four seats though... Mines had a couple of coil packs and an injector go. Thankfully, injectors are available singly!

I know the coil packs are flakey, I had mine changed FOC at 40k service, but then I get it serviced at Audi anyway.
We're not having kids so it's a selfish indulgence that 2 seaters offer, shall always be this way too. I'm always receiving compliments about it, I get nothing but good vibes from everyone.
I drive it like my Grandad though, a Grandad with slippers on 😆

Normal around town (London) and I get 32ish, on a run (Motorways) 38-40 and fast A roads I get about 38, so that's between 350-400 out of a tankful. I only use Shell Ultimate and for some reason it goes better with it. It's got the DSG flappy paddles too and sport mode and launch control (which I've never used, ever)
Superb car, takes more than enough stuff in the boot (incl 2 roadie wheels and my riding kit easy) more than enough for us two to go away on holiday (we recently went down to South Switzerland), what a blast..

Rather envious - I get about 28 overall. Can be low 20s going into town and back, have seen 37 on a very slow day on the dual carriageway in the way home from work.
Took it over to The Harz Mountains in September - what a blast that was! Very easy to get used to cruising at 120.mph.. 145mph was the most we saw, but not for long - bottled out after a minute or so! Fun though!! No idea how many mpg that was(nt). 🙁
No kids here either - space is useful though. Can get quite a lot of beer and wine into it on a weekend trip to France...
Niiiice, I've got a Saris Bones for the occasional bike carry.. Never been over 100 in mine and that was a few years ago coming back from Austria.

I have strangely mixed feelings about Audi as a brand these days. I love their old cars, and I still like their big sporty estates but I don't think I could buy one. When I was in the market for a fast estate I looked at a few nice ones, the wife liked them, but for some reason I couldn't bring myself to buy one.
If I had £100k burning a hole in my pocket, and as much as like the look/idea of an RS6 I think I'd buy something else.

As a regular looker at the ads on Pistonheads then good ones now seem to be fetching £1-1.5k more than they were 6 months ago.
Yes they're thirsty on fuel, cost quite a bit more to maintain than the average car but if you do average miles then these costs can balance out when compared to the depreciation of a boggo new car? Even with an older RS car you'd have to be seriously unlucky to match the first years depreciation on a brand new Mondeo diesel. And which would you rather drive day to day?

Well for a start I don't think I could afford to maintain an RS to tip top standard never mind afford a good one to start with. So I was looking more at S4/S6s etc.
I'm a complete wrecker too, the things I own just always seem to take a battering. Two babies, mountain bikes etc...no car I own is going to have an easy life. And lastly there's the stigma that they currently seem to have. I just no too many complete dicks who drive them (albeit diesels).
I ended up going for a Subaru because it was just that much more utilitarian and anonymous.

Anyway. I think it's easy to forget just how amazing looking the original TT was when it first came out, it looked like a spaceship compared to most of the other cars on the road.

If that's in response to me I can assure you I can't stand Clarkson. If anything I'd say Clarkson is a totem for the type of driver stereotype Audi are now saddled with, regardless of him making the odd joke about them.

After owning a RS4 for 5+ years I'll say you can easily spend the purchase price on an old RS in maintenance, if you are particularly unlucky in maintenance every 2 years.
The B5 rs4 is getting on for 15 years old and most are approaching 100K miles. Theyt were 40-50K new and are a limited run model, all the parts that make it go/stop/turn/special are unique and are starting to be unavailable from dealers. I can't admit to myself what I've spent on the car this last year (I've been unlucky) but it is and will be a specialist car with the associated problems and eye watering bills.
I wouldn't swap mine and given my time again I would buy another one but if you are thinking of buying something fast/fun do lots of homework.

I got to assume the four letter word is "fast" trains, after all mostly being far slower than RS Audi's.
Second one in CFH's original post was an Avus concept car from 1991 IIRC. I've got a matchbox model of it somewhere.

Mrs PF works in servicing for Audi. I almost bought a 2011 one from her work. It had every option on it. I passed simply because my head wouldn't let me do 20-25k miles a year on the mpg.
I dodged a bullet. It seems that particular car has been causing it's new owner quite a bit of trouble. From what she's said, the S cars can get rather spendy (nowhere near RS obviously though).
I'd only consider now if it was brand new and I had 3 years worth of warranty and a couple of years servicing.

3 years manufacturers from new, or 1 year with Audi approved used.
Have a look at an aftermarket Audi or 3rd party warranty for an S4. It's not cheap...on Audi's insured warranty a 4 year old S4 Avant with 50k on the clock is £1100 per year.
I've been on the lookout for an S4 avant but they are quite rare. Especially the 'black' version in black. You can get an identical looking 2L diesel but with 150 less bhp and considerably cheaper. I sometimes think it's not worth getting the power these days as you can hardly ever use it, but I've had a Quattro sport v6 for the past 8 yrs and would miss it.
Don't know if anyone's noticed the A6 Avant 3L bi Turbo? It's a 3L diesel Quattro that does 0-62 in 5.3 secs! How mad is that? Still out of my budget unfortunately! Maybe next year....

I hate the way that people (particular chavvy youngsters ) seem to 'aspire' to an Audi. From what I read and with some limited personal experience, they are less reliable than, say, Ford. Plus, they don't handle particularly well and are massively overpriced. RS versions excepted of course.
I have never seen one being driven, ahem, enthusiastically either.
Just my opinion of course, which also applies to other VW group products. Fantastic (but horribly arrogant) marketing.

An epic (practical) car. Audi were getting shot of these on lease deals earlier this year. I was quoted £340 a month for the black edition on 15k miles per year. Insane amount of car for the money.

Yep, RS6 just doesn't make any sense to me - even if I won Euromillions I doubt I would, just too big to use the power anywhere. But 300+bhp large and capable estate, still turns mid-40s mpg, wafts when you want it to, and quick enough to hurt your face? What's not to like?
