if you found out about a specialist consultant in another area of the country, can you ask to be refered to see them?

You certainly could not long ago, in fact you should be able to have an NHS choices referal which your GP will start and the patient finishes themselves so you can pick whichever consltant you want. Google "nhs choices".

YOu might have to make a bit of a fuss but your GOP should do this. No skin of his nose to do so
