Are Twiglets crisps?

Horrid things. They taste like they’ve been dipped in marmite, which is equally horrid.

2nd only to Bombay mix on the scale of disgusting snacks.

The entire world supply should be thrown down a bottomless pit.

I would live at the bottom of that pit 😁

Shove over a bit plenty to go around.  I've brought beer to wash then down.

Tastiness aside, I dread to think what that pit would smell like before too long.

Anyway, crisps, it's all based on the shape IMO. Potato crisps are the original, sure, but any veg thinly sliced into rough circles and fried until crunchy can be called "crisps". This also applies if they're baked etc, or some mutant thing like Pringles.

They cease being crisps when they don't look like crisps. Mini Cheddars mentioned above? No way. Twiglets, Monster Munch etc? Closer but at the end of the day no, not crisps. Snacks. Would you call salted peanuts "crisps"? Of course not, no matter that they're eaten in the same way.

They are not crisps - neither are they edible.

If you look very carefully at the end of 1 in 5 Twiglets you will see that they look like a dogs head, with two ears and a snout.  A german shepherd if you like, to get the colours right.

Christ's image in toast gets the media in a tizzy, but dog's head on crisps and they just don't care.

I can't believe how many people don't like Twiglets on here.

I bet they're not like this on Pinkbike 😐

As for what “crisps” are… choose any sensible definition, and Twiglets won’t fit… what they’re made from, how they’re made, what shape they are… pick any… Twiglets are not crisps.

Surely the only logical definition of "CRISP" is one based on its texture - the composition or shape is not relevant to that.  So on the one legitimate definition they probably do qualify, certainly pringles, monster munch, frazzles etc would.   I think the other way of looking at it would be which part of the supermarket would you expect to find them in?  amongst the crisps? certainly you would with monster munch, frazzles, pringles etc.  I would look their first for Twiglets although if particularly motivated to buy them and didn't find them there I would check the nuts and savoury snacks where you would get the bombay mix lurking...

I miss curry flavoured Twiglets

Yeah, although it was a time when every company had curry flavoured crisps, they all disappeared, they just made twiglets bearable, rather than better than normal crisps, and i am a fan of marmite!

@zilog128

Yes, but I am not 5 years old so I don’t call things “snacks” – quite happy to file them under the umbrella term “crisps” and have done with it

I try and avoid this on the internet, but you are wrong.

By this reasoning, all snacks are under the umbrella term of "crisps" including cocktail sausage rolls and pepperami.

I strongly object to the attempts of legitimization by including monster munch, mini cheddars or frazzles when talking about twaglets.

They arent the same, those are edible and tasty.

Twiglets should be crushed up and thrown in the sea.

".you could strip the roof of your mouth with the yeastiness from the old twiglet but they are fairly bland these days."

And they were 3 times as long...

no, because - and stop me if I'm going too fast - those things do not have the property of crispyness. Therefore, they are "nibbles".

I don't hate them, but there's a reason that they're last to go at a buffet.

And no, they're obviously not "crisps".

I'll try and keep up. Are you saying that "snacks" as a phrase is too babyish for you, but you're perfectly happy with "nibbles"?

I'll bet you've gone as far as "picky bits" in the past too?

FFS (I assume) man, get some consistency.

correct! not too hard, was it? 😉

I wonder what it is, that certain people clearly aren't getting from Twiglets, which is causing these brain deficiencies 🤔 Yeasty goodness, perhaps? 😂

On what planet is the word snack a child’s word FFS? It’s the best word to describe, well, a ****ing snack!

Nibbles is the kind of word I’d expect to be used at a Tupperware party. As for picky bits, I would genuinely slap the snacks out of someone’s hands if they used that in front of me. This place is ace for outing the truly weird people amongst us 😂

If there was going to be a nuclear war, twiglets would be the only thing left on the supermarket shelf.

Before and 3 weeks after.

No one talks about the Pandemic Lockdown Twiglet Shortage, for a reason.

I reckon Twiglets probably have about the same half-life as uranium, but in all honesty I’d rather eat the uranium

I love it when they have to clear the Twiglets tubs out from the supermarkets after Christmas. There’s always a bargain… the best ever was 25p a tub from a coop in Sheffield. I spent a fiver. Those tubs lasted almost to Easter in our house. It was an early Easter that year though.
