I'm in Peterboroughon Friday for 4 hours waiting for a passport.
Any ideas? Nice walk, bike ride, breakfast, museum?
Anything to kill 4 hours.
Cheers

The cathedral is worth a look and back in the 1990's there was a belgian grain barge moored in the river with a good bar in the hull.

That bar in the hull is a bit of a spin out - the slope makes you feel weird. The Chinese restaurant upstairs is excellent.

visit Melton Mowbray: the spiritual home of the pork pie.

Personally if i were stuck in P.boghorror for 4hrs, leave. If even for a few minutes it would be worthwhile.

Fair enough, that's what I thought. I've got an appointment at 8.30, so a decent breakfast would be good.
Then maybe a kip before return drive. It's 2 hrs each way.

Take a can of paint and a paintbrush with you. Paint a wall and watch the paint dry. More interesting than doing anything in Peterborough itself.

Drive out to Market Deeping and visit:

The pork pies and smoked sausages are well worth the trip. About the only things I miss from living up there.

I once got stuck with my bike at Peterborough Station late one evening for 4 hours waiting for a train. I literally ate the contents of the vending machine.

You can get to London and back in two hours from Peterborough. I would recommend that. twice.

Cathedral is worth a stroll round, then there is Peterborough museum too, which should take up an hour or so...

For breakfast, drive out to Van Hague - 8 piece cooked brekkie for £2.99 - massive garden centre to wander round while brekkie goes down, and there's also a tog24 shop there and a Cotswold Outdoor shop.
There is even a Le Creuset shop there which is bound to get the stw snobs frothing.
Or for brekkie in the centre, the JD Wetherspoon pub, The Draper's Arms is ok.
Or as mentioned above, drive out to Market Deeping & for breakfast go to Harley's Diner and then nip over the road to Linford's for the best fish & chips for miles around...(although the breakfast is quite filling.
Oh, and if you are in Market Deeping you might as well pop down the road to Terry Wrights bike shop.

The pub mentioned in a barge is called Charters & yeah, East which is the restaurant above it, is excellent.
There's also The Brewery Tap with it's own micro brewery that's worth a look, although if you are driving I doubt you'll be wanting to get plastered!

I wouldn't spend 4 hours in Peterborough and it's my local City! Laaandan is 50 mins on the choo choo... Stamford and Oundle are nice. Wait there instead.

Bring the bike and do a spin around the Green Wheel that loops around the city. 65km of flatness but at least it gets you out on the bike. Or drive the bike out to Wakerley Great Wood (20 minutes away) - decent trail there but will be a bit of a bog at the moment.

Nene Valley Railway is worth a look if you like that sort of thing. Might be wise to check out whether you can see anything there on a weekday.

Barnack Hills and Holes is well worth a visit - might still be some flowers and butterflies: it's been a strange year for nature...

Other than that, Wisbech has Peckover House (National Trust, but check opening times!)

As someone said above, Stamford's nice - and has (or used to have!) lots of bookshops.

Have a nice day, y'all!

If you want a good breakfast The Coffee Tavern in Oundle is really nice though I don't think you'd make it for your 8:30 appointment 🙁

I'm starting to wonder whether to bother.
