It's either raining or strong winds all the time.
A few times I've woken up to see a nice sunny day that turns into a wet and windy misserably day by the time I've had breakfast.
Went to go out for a ride yesterday but the wind was so bad I just turned round and went on Zwift instead.
I'm craving a ride outside without the rain or strong winds and getting bored of Zwift.
Anyone else getting fed up with this weather?
Last week I embraced the rain, yesterday the wind.
Too ****ing right! Keep going out for a bike ride and finding out that I'm wearing all the wrong clothes!
It's been pretty shit up until this week. We've a couple of decent days before next weeks snow though so I was out last night making the most of it.
21:00 ish

Minus 3C overnight,
Weather around Glasgow has been lovely the last few days. Sunny and blue skies. Breezy but not too bad. Had to put sunscreen on for today's ride.
Lovely weather but it is a cold wind - once in the woods, the wind isn't as bad, so assuming you have access to some woodland trails, go ride in there.
Over the last 4 weeks, I'm finding I'm definitely wearing the wrong clothes - far too many layers and the weather does change during the ride, so it starts off cold (me and the weather) but does warm...I then overheat and don't realise I'm overheating until we stop for lunch and I get a real chill and shiver as the sweat that is swimming around me and my various layers cools me down!
I'm sure there are still plenty people convinced climate change isn't massively influenced by man and what we are are doing, but the seasons are changing - Scotland largely had 4 distinct seasons up until about 8 years ago and we now seem to be getting closer to 2 as the differences aren't quite as extreme.
Rest of the world is also feeling it...so I reckon these stronger winds and the like are just part of this climate change that we are all living through and we'll either have to put up with it, or get enough people involved to start making better changes to hopefully help reduce the change.
Sorry, this wasn't intended to be a preachy climate change by man is bad sermon!!!
I have pictures from the 26th of March last year of riding in short and teeshirts on almost dusty trails, not much chance of that so far this year, even Swinley Red was mostly under water last weekend.
Come on Spring!
We have snow predicted from Sunday. Your rain, I laugh at it.
Totally over grey, cold, windy and rainy, keep looking back at pics on this day from years passed where we're sat in the sun loungers or out walking or cycling in the sun. We had two bright days at Donington the other week and that's it.
Never used to be that bothered by the weather - the older I get, the more I crave sun.
Been a stunning spell in the North of Scotland.
No - I commute on the bike 3 days a week so just get wet as base miles, then got muddy on the CX bike at weekend. Been road riding a bit less as didn't want yet another bike to get filthy.
It's still surprisingly soggy out there for mid April.
It's lovely and sunny here. Shame there's winds of about a million miles and hour with a temperature of about minus fifty* It's actually put me off going out on the bike tonight, as I have to stay local so that means going up on to the moor, which will be even windierer and colderer
*there may be some exaggeration, but not much.
Yep. The desire to get out in these condition is definitely waning.
It's not helped by the fact that you seem to get the odd day which is properly sunny which lulls you into a false sense of spring.
It's putting me off riding and I am definitely not getting the paddle board out for a while. The local river has been on a red flag for months now. With 6 days of rain forecast from Friday that situation is not changing anytime soon.
It's STARTING to dry out in the Leicestershire Alps, long way to go in some of the woods though.
Was riding in a Shortsleeve jersey on dry trails in Feb, then it felt like it rained everyday for about 6 weeks, because it did.
Ride last night felt very spring like if you ignored or were out of the wind, hopefully we're turning the corner...

Come on Spring!
on the other hand I remember late feb this year, riding in a t shirt; and being clean enough to sit in my car afterwards (no mudguards)
Contrasting to the lockdown winters where I barely touched the bike for months.
March was bloody awful, April has been pretty mixed, currently fairly bright, but there’s a 17mph wind, gusting to 28-30mph, and it’s easterly, so it feels colder than the 16° it’s supposed to be.
Not going to be much different for the next ten days, either, between 2 and 6° at night, 12 and 16° during the day, with the wind gusting up to 29mph tomorrow and between 19 and 24mph up to next Wednesday. Not a lot of fun.
The amount of food the hedgehogs are eating, you’d think they’re preparing to hibernate again!
Yes, it sucks!
Had a one-way train-assisted ride today, did a bit against the headwind yesterday and it was far from pleasant.
I think its all my fault.
In a spirit of wild optimism, I packed away the turbo trainer, reunited the road bike with its back wheel and paused my Zwift subscription about a month ago when the sun briefly came out. Its rained pretty much constantly ever since. Sorry everyone 🙁
I've just been out for a walk this afternoon because I can't be arsed with getting the bike caked in mud when its blowing a bloody hoolie anyway. It was nice, if bloody chilly!
...there'll be a hose-pipe ban soon! 😬
March was bloody awful
Yes after a very dry February, March was a bit of pisstake. April hasn't been really bad for me, but I'm definitely past hosing myself and the bike off after every ride. Last couple of days will have dried things up nicely though.
Im an all year bike user, and as i cant drive i dont have a lot of choice 😆 plus the ebike makes the wind/weather negligible.
But worry not, it is really only the start of the year with improvements on the way. Or will we be getting 'It's too damned hot to go cycling' 😆
As I ride all year round and alway out by 8am the weather is rarely that great but this year does seem to be dragging on a bit and would expect it to me a bit nicer by now but then even in the best bit of summer it is never usually that hot at 8am.
I seem to be getting lucky and dressing *just* right for most rides, usually relying upon a Shakedry jacket for showery days which is sort of cheating as Shakedry is almost good enough just to use as a windbreaker.
As for the headwind, I'm ultra careful to take it easy most rides due to a litany of bugs and injuries, which just seems to mean I've always got something in the legs for any headwindy bits, last ride we only averaged something pitiful but at least the headwinds were relatively pain free.
Hardest part is getting out though, mostly the sound of the windy gusting around my office window which puts me off.
Not many days to cheer about this year so far, wasn't bad during week leading to Easter, but just brief dry spells since inbetween lots of showers and wind. It's not bad out there today according to the local weather stations, but that north easterly breeze is taking the nice edge off things.
Tree pollen seems sky-high, once again today my eyes can feel it along with my lungs, been trying fexofenadine and cetirizine for the last six weeks with mixed results.
Just checked the weather for this evening. A 17mph headwind for my 20 mile commute home with two panniers on the bike adding to the drag. That's going to hurt.

I've been wondering all day about which way to ride home - you've just reminded me of the wind today. It will be the normal, 10 mile ride home then. 2 miles with the wind, 6 miles in shelter in the woods, and 2 miles along the seafront into the wind. Lovely. 🙁
March was bloody awful
March was horrendous, I barely scraped into the Strava Gran Fondo and Climbing Challenge completion. Those are my two goals each month, complete both of those. Barely did anything in March, it was just raining the whole bloody time. 🙁
April hasn't been too bad but the wind needs to **** off now, this is getting beyond a joke. I can average 25mph going west and 5mph going east at the moment.
It's especially cold as it's a strong easterly so if your exposed it's about 1 or 2 degrees. The North sea and continent are still very cold this time of year.
My Stages SB20 arrives tomorrow, I was going to set up for winter but think it's I'll be using it sooner.
Lovely in the Peak District yesterday afternoon, it was windy but in the correct direction to give me some assistance up the hills.

You didn't go out for a ride because its windy? Deep down you didn't really want to ride and were looking for an excuse not to.
Yeah, it's been doing my head in. Since end of Feb and up until this week it's been a pile of crap (Leeds)
I did have a fantastic wind assisted ride last night on drying trails though.
Looks like we have this evening and tomorrow to enjoy with reasonable sunny weather (though a bit of a strong wind), but then back to meh and/or shit for the foreseeable after that.
Its been lovely in Edinburgh recently - dry and sunny with not a lot of wind.
Yeah, I share everyone's pain. Spring has been a complete ****tease this year ... the odd few days of dry weather and the trails just start to improve... only for it all to turn to sh*t again with yet another period of wet weather ... this cycle has been going on for over 3 months now!
I do tend to run a bit more when the trails are ruined, saves bike cleaning (although constant shaggy border Collie cleaning is wearing a bit thin!)
Yes.
I live in the Pacific Northwest and it's been a total bag of shit so far, the odd nice day but it should be warming up by now. It's really sapping my motivation, which leads to a lack of fitness which saps my motivation.
I don't know if it's age or mental state, but I used to be able to push through the crappy weather.
I should never have left California :-(, even if the trails are better here.
I got very wet on Friday but the weather's been pretty good since then here in north Notts, particularly in the evenings. I was out for most of the day yesterday and it was lovely despite the wind.
This week in Scotland, the week before I go up there for a holiday... 21 degrees.
The week I go... Snow.
Yay. 🤣🤣🤣
THe commute hame was a barsteward. Windy as hell, and some big side gusts. Overtook a female cyclist as a big side gust hit and she yelped in fright - she said at the lights, 'blimey that was scary'.
The lack of hills has meant that over the years, I’ve come to embrace the wind and often just ride for an hour or two straight into the wind to simulate a good climb.
I went out Monday evening but the last couple of days, the cold wind has really put me off and extended dog walks have been much more favourable.
Been a lovely few days here but I've seen nothing of it due to work. Watching the weather earlier and it seems another crèche tomorrow before it turns to shit week into next week. Great. It feels particularly crappy, but then maybe it's always like this... The weather fella said this saying, suggesting you shouldn't get too excited until May.
Ne'er cast a clout till May be out
https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/till-may-is-out.html
We always say that May 1st is always a lovely day, last year we organised an outdoor birthday party for my daughter. Pissed it down.
It’s especially cold as it’s a strong easterly so if your exposed it’s about 1 or 2 degrees. The North sea and continent are still very cold this time of year
BBC TV weather forecast last weekend suggested that it would be warmer because of the east wind coming off the continent. I wondered if they knew what time of year it was. 😀
Its bloody lovely here in brighton!
I've got a free bratwurst lunch coming and then i'm going out on teh SS to make the most of the Hero dirt.
had donuts for breakfast - its been a tough day.
It's lovely here now but I'm at work till 5. Then it's due to be rain again.
Been nice near Milton Keynes this week. I was meant to be at Dalby camping where the forecast was also good but the after effects of covid last week has left me groggy so couldn’t drive and too drained to ride. Back to work next week so will probably be amazing weather while I’m too busy to ride.
