Any kind plumbers on here?

Hi all,

I bought a thermostatic shower from a large online store last year, and had it fitted by a local plumbing company.

No issues for ~6 months, then end of last year the shower started playing up. From speaking to various people, it seems like the shower itself is at fault.

The shower was sold with a 5 year warranty, but the company is under new ownership, and is not honouring warranty claims.

I'm going through the process of claiming against my credit card provider, and they are asking for an independent report from a qualified expert.

Would there be any kind (and qualified) plumbers on here who I could explain the full situation to, and if they agree that the shower is at fault, write an email explaining that the issue is due to an inherent fault with the shower etc?

Happy to pay for your time on this.

If you're happy to do this, please shout and I'll drop you a dm! Thanks.

Not a plumber but have you checked that there isn’t any swarf or debris blocking the cartridge?

Have you also checked that the small filters on the intake(s) are not blocked? A relatively simple job for a competent diy-er or a plumber.

the company is under new ownership,

Which company? The shop, the plumbers or the shower manufacturer?

By the time you've faffed about with all this it'll be cheaper to pay another plumber to come and have a look at it.

I very much doubt any plumber will put their name to an email without looking at the install anyway.

And how exactly do you think the install is at fault, and who has told you it is faulty? And can you approach the manufacturer of the shower re the warranty. Triton replaced a couple of carts in mine years ago.

If it is a surface mount shower valve it would be quicker and likely cheaper to just buy another and replace it, and then go out for a bike ride instead of fighting the claim.

Sounds like Victoria Plum, administration and sale (possible prepack shenanigans) last autumn, loads of jobs lost here in Doncaster where the call centre and warehouse is.

The guarantee my have been useless anyway - they exclude thermostatic valves which is the only bit that is likely to fail. I had a shower that failed just outside warranty, replaced the valve as a gesture of goodwill only for it to fail 6 months later. Swapped shower out for a better brand, it does feel nicer to use and time will tell if it's anymore reliable. I'm just glad it wasn't one of the showers with the valve all hidden behind tiles.
