Dont pick it.
Tell any sexual partners that they should get checked out.
Take two paracetamol and if the throbbing continues, come in for a tetanus.

some or all of that may apply.

The creatinine blood test is used along with a BUN (blood urea nitrogen) test to assess kidney function. Both are frequently ordered as part of a basic or comprehensive metabolic panel (BMP or CMP), groups of tests that are performed to evaluate the function of the body’s major organs. BMP or CMP tests are used to screen healthy people during routine physical exams and to help evaluate acutely or chronically ill patients in the emergency room and/or hospital. If the creatinine and BUN tests are found to be abnormal or if you have an underlying disease, such as diabetes, that is known to affect the kidneys, then these two tests may be used to monitor the progress of kidney dysfunction and the effectiveness of treatment. Blood creatinine and BUN tests may also be ordered to evaluate kidney function prior to some procedures, such as a CT (computed tomography) scan, that may require the use of drugs that can damage the kidneys.

Anything else I can help you with?

I always diagnose with google
it saves the confrontations when the patient comes in with a print out from it.

Just pray that the pain goes away but you retain the swelling.

My wife, who is sat beside me, is a Endocrinology Specialist Registrar and she says:

"we don't usually measure creatine but often check creatinine, which is a breakdown product of muscle. It is usually produced at a fairly constant rate which gives an idea of kidney function. However sports docs will have more of an interest in creatine to spot those who are body building etc."

All you Doctors, can we perpetuate a myth please. Are all Nurses really Nymphomaniacs? My ex most certainly was.

psychiatric nursie here, and it would be fair to say that i am no nymphomaniac. I do a great 'fart, rollover and fall asleep' though.

Personally I reckon the nmphomaniac distribution is probably the same for most occupational groups, it's just that a randy nurse is just a bit more memorable than a randy estate agent. I don't think i would forget TJ in a hurry!

thanks for your answer graham. I'm 99% sure it was the creatine levels they measured as i said is that what body builders use. But perhaps creatine can be measured by checking cretinine. As i think creatinine is the by product of creatine. Your wife must get a headache trying to understand all that its a very complicated subject from my short readings. anyway thanks for your help.

See, so that answers my question, why you want to know....

They will have measured your serum creatinine, very unlikely to have measured your creatine (in fact I'm not entirely sure that you can in most laboratories, certainly not at my local hospital which does all the toxicology samples for the regional police etc).

Creatinine is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate so will be raised if you are taking in more creatine than you need you will break more of it down and excrete it. As long as your kidleys are working OK then your serum creatinine will remain at a normal level but your urinary creatinine will be increased as you literally piss it all away.

julianwilson, true but a randy Nurse seems to be a rolls-eyes badge of honour/institution whereas randy female recruitment consultants are just randy pieces of meat (and rancid at that)..
