I liked what we saw of Saw. It's cool that he's a lot less mangled than he is in Rogue One, I liked the implication of the battles to come. I was however slightly troubled by the x-wings he had parked out the front of the cave. If they are already in use at this time why don't we see others here and there?
We liked it. My wife has sat through Obi Wan and Boba Fett while I couldn't be bothered with either after a couple of episodes. But I really liked Andor (more than she did). Definitely more gritty/realistic than some of the other spin offs. Loved the prison break. And definitely a good empire back story.

Maybe they were prototype or first generation? I can see someone as badass as Saw Gerrera wanting some fast attack ships : )
I think what I like is that it's more like a cold war thriller or WW2 spy drama but set in the SW universe. Playing out all the little ways in which those that will ultimately organise the rebellion have to compromise their own ethics and make decisions that sacrifice lives and/or bait the Empire into becoming more repressive just to help push more people towards the rebellion...
By the time we get to Ep4 the likes of Luke/Han/Leia sort of get to operate in a less morally 'grey' version of the rebellion with much clearer "Goodies" and "Baddies". That moral ambiguity was touched on in 'Rogue One' especially with Andor, you learn from the outset that he's capable of doing quite hands-on shitty things for the greater good. This series is doing a good job already of showing how he gets to become that person, along with developing the back story of a few other characters.

As mentioned before this is set approx. ~5BBY(ish?) so you have to assume at least some of the slightly banged up, grubby looking X-wings you eventually see zipping around the Death Star are already in service at this point. The same sort of Tie Fighters we see in Ep4 already exist, and Saw and his buddies are kind of in hiding too at this point, building forces and kit up, the rebellion is a disparate bunch of cells still and they don't want to go giving the Empire too much of a clue about the X-wings or any other kit/capabilities they might have just yet, so you won't get lots of 'X-wing Vs Tie' Dog fighting. I think it still fits in with the continuity...
I will say however I would like it to run for no more than two seasons (of 12 episodes), there's always a danger with these things that they milk it for five+ seasons because it's popular and they're desperate to generate SW content, in doing so Disney could well ruin Andor.

Yep, 1970s cold war/paranoid thriller vibe was the predominant theme. And the production design definitely referenced that era of filmmaking.
I can't see them doing more than one more series, maybe two at a push if filmed concurrently, not least because of the calibre of talent involved. And I totally agree, less is more. If only JJ had got that memo.

Sure, but who is building these things? The Mon Mothma plot is all about her secretly pulling together money to fund the rebellion, so you'd assume the rebel supply chain hasn't got it together yet to build all the capital stock you see in ANH. So if there's x-wings contemporaneous with Andor that would suggest they are pre-existing designs but you don't see them anywhere else at all.
That's the only bit that jarred for me. Though I appreciate I am probably overthinking it!

Yes, it’s all childish nonsense, but the idea that tech is designed, repurposed, evolved, improved, built, and destroyed… all adds to the world building. In this case it reminds us that the Rebels were always on the back foot with their weapons, working with an update of older inferior tech, and less of it. Like the Death Star building link in this series… and other series… adds to the scale of the thing, and the “cost” of it.
Give over, none of that makes great, compelling TV. Andor is good [i]despite[/i] Star Wars, not because of it. Focusing on nerd-stuff rather than, you know, acting/dialogue/production/plot is why most “franchise” stuff is so mediocre, I’d argue it’s generally a negative influence as it’s generally just used as a crutch to avoid having to be original or creative. Andor would’ve been just as good as a totally original story (better, probably).
It made great use of a timeline and universe that already existed… and added to them. I mean, the whole seeds of the rebellion thing is central to all the story lines and the experiences and choices of the characters. Yes, that the characters were well developed and well played is absolutely key to why the series worked (but also why some people found it slow at times), but that’s all built on existing Star Wars story telling. It definitely adds to it, IMHO, more so than some of the other TV stuff.
I watched the first few .. I like it.. it's good, better than the avearage Disneyfied BS. it's an 8/10 from me.
Just finished watching the series, I really enjoyed it, the best SW series so far for me, although I really did enjoy The Mandalorian too.

Yep, definitely has legs.. I realy enjoyed the first series having watched it all now, sci-fi done right rather than just relying on the Star Wars IP to carry it.
I especially loved the toad people who were about to kill Andor, but i'm still slightly confused as to how they all flew off into the sunset together.
Anyway, it's a solid thumbs up from me.

I'm maybe 6 episodes in and really liking it.... star wars for grown ups and all that.
But I'm thinking I should watch some of the other "lesser" series first and then come back to Andor knowing its good.
So which others should I watch? And what is your order worst to best ??
Oh and I havent seen Solo yet. So please throw that film into your series list.

Honestly most of them are cr@p. Ahsoka felt like an entire series setup for the next series. The Acolyte I watched half of the first episode (Carrie Ann Moss is in it.. oh no she's not!). Boba Fett was hopeless, Mandalorian is good for a couple of series but gets worse. Andor is the only good one really. And I say that as a big Star Wars fan.
Rogue One is obviously the 2nd best SW movie of all time. Solo is fun in a 'I'm super hungover on a rainy Saturday afternoon and this just came on the TV which is nice' kind of way. I'd watch it again.
The Obi Wan Kenobi series was poor, but there's a fan made edit which somehow manages to make an enjoyable film out of it. I'd recommend watching that rather than the series.

Ashoka is OK if you've already watched the Rebels cartoon, without that I'm not sure how much of it would make sense.
Mando is mostly great fun, Boba Fett isn't.
Acolyte was fairly "meh" until the last couple of episodes, but has now been canned.
I didn't especially enjoy Solo, but the general consensus seems to be "It's not as bad as people said it was at the time".
Agree entirely about Andor and Rogue One.

Got free 3 months of Disney so I've been catching up.
Andor > Mando > Ahsoka > Boba Fett, but Boba Fett really is a part of the Mando set so if you watch series 1 and 2 Mando then Boba Fett, then series 3 Mando it all makes a bit more sense.
If you are time limited just watch series 1 & 2 of Mando and Andor. The other stuff is watchable and worth a look as we all like different stuff, though.
I'd put off watching Solo because of the reviews but I thought it was ok. A fairly decent stand alone film. Perhaps a little bit heavy on the Star Wars gap filling and back story but enjoyable as a Star Wars original trilogy fan.
Currently rewatching it with my boy, just as good second time round. Hopefully the second (and final) series will be out early next year

Ahsoka you really have to have watched Rebels, in fact a lot of the animated stuff is great, but there's a lot of it!
Having younglings has given me an excuse to watch the lego star wars stuff too, some of which is very funny
Rebels is brilliant. Andor finally manages to convey the malevolence of the Empire. I liked Kenobi, it showcases what happens to Kenobi after ROTS, which was needed.
The Mandalorian is great. Ahsoka is okay so far, but I was expecting a bit more. Rosario Dawson makes a great Ahsoka, so I’m hoping for better things from S2. Agree that you should watch Rebels first.
The book of Boba Fett was rubbish. I was expecting something similar to the Boba Fett trilogy of books from the expanded universe (which are brilliant) but no, we god mods on space Vespas.

Watched all 3 episodes they have released. Probably should have rewatched the first series again, as I'm not a full on nerd and lost track of who was doing what with who.
No spoilers, but it sparks up in episode 3, but may not be suitable for younger viewers.
I was wondering about a re-watch of series 1 first but that's a bit of commitment. Might search out a series summary or recap. Anyone seen a good one? There's a few on YouTube

I rewatched the first series last month. Actually I enjoyed it much more the second time around! Enjoying series 2 so far.
But…it’s probably been sitting in the Disney vaults for weeks, if not months.
Oddly stuff like this they are probably working on almost up until the very end. Obvs the filming would be done a long time ago in places made to look like a galaxy far away.

Enjoying it so far, really do like this "star wars for grown ups" that is Andor, in the same way i'm not a big fan of Marvel bar the old series (and the new Daredevil just come out) like Punisher, Daredevil etc, proves that there can be a market for sci-fi that isn't cartoon like, fan boy service or just smashy-crashy action scene after action scene like a lot of Marvel stuff.
