I have no idea what a "gralloch" is, and on reflection I think I'd rather not change that ignorance.

We went to a shooting range in Murica the other week and fired Beretta 92 9mm handguns, just like Martin Riggs off of Lethal Weapon - it was awesome! 😀

Part of the point of a TV show is to show something that isn’t just your regular life. (Though this doesn’t explain the love of Corrie or Reality shows)

Your life is like Coronation Street? Like literally O M G!

when telly watching was introduced in Bhutan violent crime increased. This was attributed to folk viewing violence on the telly.

Gun threads on here don't bother me in the slightest. Grown men getting moist about Lego is much more of a concern.

When I was growing up it was television rotting kids’ minds, in my parents’ era it was rock & roll, go back far enough and we were burning books.

About 80 years, give or take, in Germany. More recently in ‘Murica, IIRC, and possibly even here.

If I get a chance I would like to shoot some CZ75 or Steyr AUG M3 in Thailand. 😀

I find them distasteful, but I also find endless threads with people mithering on about which expensive, polluting company car to get distasteful too, I just ignore them.

Guns are just a tool. Whats the hype. I am former SF and now run a bodyarmour company making plate carriers for the SOF community. I should love guns but meh, just stuff to get the job done. Made for a reason. Nice to stay current with weapon/gear development but it gets old. Stay current in tactics.

Although I do like pre 1900 stuff and if I collected. It would be mostly blackpowder and early, like first gen cartridges. Early blackpower revolvers.

But then there is Lego. My passion.

Always fancied a black powder pistol but no time to join a club. Was a good shot on .22 at school.

Yeah thats it. Everyone on my team was a cheater. Gf in every port.

1858 Remington blackpowder revolver. So fun to shoot. More than any modern stuff. Even a minigun IMO.

I didn't mention it above but I also discovered in my neighbours garage a William IV cavalry pistol

Just finished 24 year career. I'm happy I'll be weapon free from now on. Used to be an absolute nerd with it but as most of my weapons were belt-fed, shooting outside the Army doesn't interest me.

Totally get why people want to target/sport/hunt shoot. More power to you. As for distasteful; Wilkos have offers on dustpan/brush sets to sweep that sand out of your vagina.

Yeah outside its over. End of chapter and time to let go. 150mph to Zero. Not easy but mtb helps!

in beltfed, mostly 5.56 and a few special machineguns that we had chambered in .338 lap magnum. Nice reach 🙂

Nice bit of casual sexism, people have different views and can express them if that upsets you feel free to get a dust pan and brush from Wilkos.....

7.62 and .50cal

From moving platforms at moving targets. Those were fun and demanding range days.

The latter out to 1800m closing at 120kts.

Some days I miss it, some days so glad that that's no longer my life. If I never see another desert again, that'll still be too soon.

Nice work, that takes a lot of practice.

As for deserts. Man tried every performance fabric to stay cool. I had the pleasure of mostly walking in mountains and villages.

I miss it too but the next chapter begins. The military machine keeps moving. Just enjoy the freedom.

I was in the outdoors so much for work, the enduro mtb thing keeps me sane. Big climbs, mountains, the dh part. Like Infil, blow shit up at the top and exfil back down 😀 If I do not get out for a few days I go nuts. Used to doing the mileage in the hills.

........find them distasteful and if I’m honest a little strange ?

(snip)
Ultimately guns are ........disgusting.

If you really want to pretend to be in the army or terrorist ............you can all get hardons together.

To the average joe guns etc are pathetic.

....... rambos telling me I’m wrong.

Now run along toy army folk !!

@anagallis_arvensis not in any way defending the casual sexism of the sandy vagina comment, but the OP managed to include an entire raft of insult, contempt and angst into their opening salvo. Most of which appear to be targeted specifically at negative male stereotypes , which is ironic considering that the member who started the air rifle thread was a woman!

Fair point.

Any other Olympic sports the OP has an issue with?

I'm not in the least bit interested in shooting things with a pulse, but I do like target shooting. As for clays - well I'm useless. But a Steyr Lp10 is a work of art for air pistol shooting of paper targets - what exactly is the issue with that? It also requires no kit! If you think Stortroopers on Enduro bikes is a thing, you should see my step-father's 22 rifle shooting kit!

In the US I went 9mm pistol shooting for an education. It was great and my target shooting was better than I expected. But I prefer the air pistol.

Cant speak for the op but I find boxing and the other fighting once distasful, not keen on the horse whipping ones either. And golf....I hate golf.

And golf

Well every day is a school day, the reintroduction of golf back into the summer Olympics had totally passed me by! And hopefully will continue to do so. I must have been to busy watching the shooting, fighting and horse whipping.

You'll have to be more specific, is that fencing, judo, karate or taekwondo?

I find gun threads (and penknife threads - in the guise of ‘every day carry’ ffs! ) distasteful and sad. The best defence seems to be that it is discussion about ‘the best tool for the job’. If your job is a gamekeeper, then more power to you. If you just think that you might be a gamekeeper one day then I just think you’re a sad ****.

Which is more sad, the threads themselves or someone taking the time to both read and reply to threads they have no interest in?

You tell me. The original question was:

Am I the only one that find gun threads distasteful?

I would say no, as above. Plink away

Fencing, cant say I've ever really watched but they dont actually try to hurt each other so I doubt its something I would switch off. Judo, Karate and Taekwondo I'm not sure I could distinguish, just dont like watching people get hit and kicks so maybe judo would be ok? Theres that odd wrestling too, never watched it though.
