Hi,

I'm looking for campsite recommendations for 2021 for a post lock down (hopefully) trip; so plenty of time to plan...but we've got plans for this year already.

We've just got a VW sized campervan this year and we'd like to look at The Alps. French/Italian all good, I like all food. We've got two small kids (they'll be 8 and 5 then).

We are looking for (I'll shoot for the stars here):

-recommended camp site, bit of space (if possible) for an awning, with electric hook up
-decent views/fresh air, lake, some shade, endless scenic waterfalls with beer in them
-swimming pool (or easy access to a pool)
-stuff to do (hiking etc)
-access to a cable car/lift accessible riding

Any guidance/recommendations welcome and much appreciated.

we liked camping international, Aosta. It was a long time ago tho.

swimming pool on site
nice little bar which did food
tree shade
pretty office lady who didn't wear a bra but did wear thin white blouses
nice little supermarket nearby
Aosta is a nice town
cable car in Aosta with mtb downhill
loads of xc mtb in the valley (we had an italian language guidebook, which was fun)
not sure about walking but there will be loads. We did more alpine mountaineering type routes.

Samoens is good. Nice town, outdoor pool nearby.

We also have liked Ile des Barrats in Chamonix. It generally has a mix of hardy mountain types passing through on foot, right to 20+ foot motor homes. A short walk to the Aiguille du Midi cable car, not too far into the town centre.

Thanks all for the tips so far. I had a brief look last night. They all look very nice, stunning setting and definitely what we are looking for.

Site in Montriond nice as well and not far up to pools in Morzine. River etc on doorstep. Or Samoens.

Luckily the Alps is full of campsites like the that

We enjoyed a trip like that to Lauterbrunnen

No swimming pool but still fab. I think for a swimming pool we went by cable car to Grindelwald. The best bit is the transport network that allows precise tailoring of effort on walks with max views etc. The kids were quite cheap on the travel pass so overall expensive but good value. Amazing Views from the campsite. Incredible toilet block with family bath rooms

Chamonix was also great for a family holiday, Again great transport network but much less integrated than in Switzerland. The town has a real buzz that the kids loved

One thing to think about is the altitude of the campsite and what that means in terms of temperatures - Aosta for example can regularly be 30c plus in summer and doesn't get a lot cooler over night, friends said similar when they went to Chamonix.

We used camping monte Bianco in Aosta, it’s just up the road from the international. We prefer it as it’s a smaller simpler site with a really nice couple running it. Depends what sort of site you like

Another vote for Huttopia at Bourg. Fab pizzas by the pool, and the van parking areas look nice and quiet. Some of the pitches round the edge of the site can be a bit noisy.

Thanks all for the recommendations; have been researching them offline.

Out of interest, can anyone recommend a good place to take the kids (biking wise) for their first Alps riding trip? I would love to find a place with uplifted riding to help give them confidence, but also to allow them to enjoy the mountains without being intimidated by the riding.
