[Closed] Accidentally answered a 12 digit mobile number - can I get scammed?

Was half expecting a call anyway so didn't hesitate to answer when an unknown (what appeared to be...) mobile number called me.

Silence at the other end of the line then a dial tone as if I was ringing them. Quickly hung up then noticed the number was 12 digits rather than 11.

Can I get scammed without having dialled the number? Is this one of those where the scammer hopes you'll call them back>

Maybe, have you googled the number?

It's probably just a ppi/personal injury scam.

I wouldn't worry too much if you've not returned the call.

Is it not just one of these automated calling things where a puter dials a bunch of numbers and as soon as someone picks up passes it to the next free 'agent' to sell some crap.

^Yeh more than likely this.

Google the number. If it's dodgy just blacklist it... Did they call your mobile number?

Sending fake caller IDs is very, very trivial. If you called it back it'd almost certainly fail as an invalid number (because, uh, it is an invalid number).

You cannot be charged for receiving a call in the UK, at all, for what should be readily apparent reasons. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

My mobile number has 12 digits. So does my landline. (Both excluding any international prefix)

Am I a scammer? or a bot auto dialer for surveys/spam etc.?

My mobile number has 12 digits.

Then you are unique.

If you don’t live in the UK, then that may be normal.
However if you do live in the uk, then either you can’t count, or there is something very strange going on.

I'm aware of that story from three years ago. I'm not aware of any follow-up or conclusion beyond the providers going "no you didn't." If you've got one I'd love to hear it.
