lol! I read the first book yesterday. Well, I tried to. What utter tripe!

Absolutely and massively, more Dan Browne. Terribly written, but because Richard and Judy say its good, people who normally don't read pick it up and say it's good. Sales go through the roof.

There are books out there that will grab you by the entrails and thrash you around all night. Quality books you simply cannot put down. So much better than this trash and yet they are all missed because some TV presenters can't understand them.

Get out there, stop listening to the sheep herders, challenge your own limits and just read what comes along. You don't need to be told what to read. Just grab a book and give it a a go. Some will be terrible like this stuff, others will change your life. That's not inane chatter, they will change ... your....life. Read, now.

mrsconsequence got given a coy by her friends for her birthday, she's trying to read it but all she can see is her work unfolding in front of her. She's a specialist in domestic abuse and working with perpetrators of domestic violence. her and 2 of her female colleagues keep joking about all the risk assessments he'd fail and how dangerous they'd class him as a perpetrator.

Not read it but I expect it has been driven by the publishing industry's marketing hype, which is presumably aimed accurately at frustrated middle-aged women and then picked up by the Richard & Judy set and all the women's magazine writers looking for some phwoar to report.

If nothing else it proves how good the book industry has become at selling garbage to gullible consumers.

There is another 50 Shades of Grey inspired parody on Twitter called 50 Shapes of Cakes @50Cakes - it touches on instances of the book, whilst dealing with pastry love, desire and obsession.

Get it while it is hot!

I have to agree with CountZero - Julie O'Neill's Insatiable is much more fun...

I'm reading it at the moment but only because the wife and kids bought it for my birthday. They were looking for books for me when the cover caught my 11 year old son's eye in Smiths and he shouted out how about this Fifty Shades of Grey to my wife. She explained to my son and his twin sister that it was a very rude book and they should put it down right away. Well that was that sorted and they refused to leave the shop till she'd bought it.

I'm determined to finish it but it's hard going.

Women can't 'read' magazine porn you know Ron, our saintly little eyes will burn and our souls will turn black. We have to get our kicks from proper words.
