Back in the day you could always just drive in and park at the junction of some forest roads.
Then again I haven't parked there for 20years so it might have changed 🙂

There's a spot by the bridge, just before if coming from Selkirk, just after if coming from Peebles/Clovenfords. Take the track along the river to get to the SUW climb to Three Brethren. There is a descent which will bring you out again almost at your car (can't remember it's name, the final one when you go along through the trees from the gate at the shoulder, it's really good.)
