Ok this may be the most stupid question ever but I want my brake lever on my XT's to be operated by only my index finger but currently the standard levers are too long so i use index and middle. So can you buy after market levers that are shorter which I know you can on Hope's or is it a case of having to put up with it. thanks

Can you not just move the lever clamps inboard a bit? Depends on how you've got your bars set up, but my XTs work nicely with single fingers when they're inside the shifters.

Can't you just move your levers further in on the bars?

What they said. I run my brakes inboard of my shifters for that very reason.

Ok so the brakes are inbound now and works a treat but the shifter are to close to my hand - Do most people end up removing the gear window so you can push them away from the grips.

Yes, I remove the windows to allow them to be in a comfortable position. Also, I never seem to use the windows, they're just something else to break in a spill.

yeah windows suck. I often muse that this is the reason why sram got so popular with the dh crowd..

@toys19: you'd be half right too, other half is the cable pull stroke is much longer (than Shimano) so every things more easy to fine tune & stay put. I wish I had SRAM...

ahh interesting didnt know that. I went a bit mental and put x0 shifters and deraillers on two of my bikes, the shifting is bloody good.
