I've done a few searches but seems to be out of stock! Managed to snap the cage on my xt 780 tonight, not happy! Does anyone know of any in stock for the new shadow + or should i just replace with a 780, would like to be up and running again by friday as i have got a club event on saturday and don't fancy doing it on my hardtail, new mech is for my zesty. Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you mind which colour mech you have? Silver ones are in stock at Madison so any decent bike shop should be able to get one for you.

Yes M780 has been discontinued but it has a direct replacement RD-M781 which are also in stock.

Thanks for the reply's i went for a 781 in the end, going to test it all out tommorrow. Just had a quick check on merlin and it's saying that the long cage shadow+ in silver is in stock now if anybody interested, a bit gutted as a can't afford one now! Maybe next month?

FYI for anyone going 1x10, a zee will shift better, last longer and is only 14g heavier.

continuity,

On what evidence do you believe Zee will shift better and last longer?

In my experience, cage length does not affect shifting and Zee has rubbish bushes for jockey bearings.
I also bet is has the main pivots without the PTFE coating, but need to check.

The weight advantage is probably correct.

In my experience, cage length does affect shifting (and helps to resist chain deraillment), so there is my anecdotal evidence (to match thine).

Re: lasts longer, I meant versus rock/trail impacts due to parallelogram build and it being more out of the way, not the bearings. Also, I thought they had put bearings on the slx+ wheels for the last few years. Can you show me a sales page that confirms bushings in zee jockeys?

Weight disadvantage.

c,

SLX 9-spd has bushes, cannot see 10-spd spec.
Zee has bushes if you look at the Shimano pictures (it does not have the white writing saying sealed bearing on the lower).
http://www.crusheveryline.com/en/
Saint has ceramic upper and sealed lower for 9 and 10-spd.
I cannot prove the PTFE coating on the pivots as the info is inconsistent on the Shimano pages.
I accept your point about the mech being out-of-danger for the shorter cages and the shadow parallelogram.

Both Zee and 2013 SLX use bushes judging by the product diagrams/manuals for both.

In fact Zee can almost be defined as a short cage SLX as most of the upper components are the same on both mechs.
