Hi,

I have a just got some used XT hydraulic brakes on my bike and have bee trying to fill the system with fluid. Cannot for the life of me get any through. I have tried the method on Park tool site of filling the reservoir and blleding through without any success at all. i cannot fit a syringe and pipe and push it through reverse to the reservoir on the brakes as it wont go through either. How do you do them??????Please let me know, it is driving me mad.

You are undoing the bleed port at the bottom slightly, yes?

Were they functioning before? XT levers have an issue with the master piston sticking in the bore. If that happens it's buy a new lever or send back under warranty.

Is the freestroke adjuster wound out?

These are the old XT levers, but yes definitely working before.
Don't know what the freestroke adjuster is Ashy, and by blled port, do you mean the bleed nipple? If so yes, I am undoing it

Freestroke adjuster is a small cross head screw adjuster on the lever. It needs to be unscrewed before you bleed.

I would get the syringe screwed on the lever bleed port with a bit of fluid in it, then with a good syringe full at the caliper, attach to bleed nipple, undo and pump in fluid. Don't let either syringe empty.

Epic bleed solutions have a good, easy to follow guide

Good luck!

I don't know if the older XT levers have the freestroke adjuster. Can you tell us which levers you have or take a picture?

Just speculation, but if the free stroke screw stops the bleed process, does that mean it pushes the piston past the inlet port for the reservoir and turns it into a closed system?
