Riding a stumpty HT with S-Works Fast Trak,2.0 tyres, which are very good!

I have been using Bontrager Mud X throughout the winter, however as good as they are, they dont seem to last very long...

So now I am looking for something different to try...ideally something as 'a good all rounder' using the term loosely...

Suggestions please?

Specialized The Captain, if you get on with the Fast Trak.

i know they are relatively unknown, but the cheng shin tyres that came on my merida have been fantastic, from mud all the way through to dusty singletrack. i dont know the name of the tyre, but maxxis use their rubber for their tyres.

The Hutchinson Toros I have on my Yeti are great all-rounders. Don't see any reason to change them for the summer.
You have to shop around though as they are damn expensive (for USTs anyway)

Similar dilemma here after Sauserwinds (S Works) stopped being made and my rear is a near slick.

Got but not tried a Nobby Nic Evo. Looks pretty good to me. Will fit it this weekend.

I also have a Stumpy HT but rather modified!

I had the Panaracer Fire XC Pro's a few years back, they were pretty good.

Anyone have the latest version of these ?

Jones ACX. Tireless ready not UST so cheaper, but will need sealant if you are tubeless.

I have tried various tyres recently, Conti Gravty's were OK, Nobby Nic Evos Ive been hugely disappointed with (usual gripes, great on trails but as soon as you hit a tree root or stone - WAHEEEY!)

Im going to try Specialized again next month, prob go back to Spec Captains or see if there's anything else interesting in their range . . .

Jimmy - thanks for that (just got that very tyre!). I loved the Sauserwinds but they stopped them.

Not tried Captains but Fastraks were worse than useless in any mud.

Maxxis Aspens, used the at the clic24 last weekend in thin mud and dry fast single track, they were great.

As a total tyre addict, I'd offer the following thoughts:

Nobby Nic evo model - disappointing (agree with uncle jimmy) - also b.expensive.

Panaracer fireXcpro 2.1 - a-ok, nothing remarkable, a pronouced shoulder tread which digs in well giving good side grip. Also has the anti snake bit thing to tyre wall.

Kenda blue groove - really good, the less well known option to the nevegal. 2.1 model, great for dry and slight wet conditions - good all rounder until our usual winter arrives. Worked better on full suss. than hardtail. For me Nevegal was a disappointment, removed after 1 ride.

Panaracer rampage 2.1 - awesome. Does everything, other than totally boggy conditions. They do a soft compound option, have this on a full suss and hardtail. Did a welsh trail centre on red & black runs and these were fine. Great grip in all conditions so far, used them for about 3 months now on 2 of my bikes.

Spez.tyres - got on with most in the range, like cheap prices.

Conti. mountain king - very light tyre, good in the dry, have used them with good results. 2.2 width. totally avoid in the wet.

Can't think of any others worth mentioning - from my experience to date.
