Hello folks,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a stem for my XC hardtail? Specifically one that has a decent negative angle on it (I kinda use it mostly as a gravel bike and I am quite used to the lower front position) and isn't wildly expensive?
I am currently using this here- in 90mm flavour. It is probably a bit too much though, and I would really benefit from a couple cm less for when it does get a bit techy. That one has been sold out for ages now and I'm probably thinking it won't come back.
I can find a bunch of 70mm MTB stems at -6/7 or so but my bike has a decently high front end and a massive conical spacer on the headset which doesn't really warrant changing yet.
*edit* - doesn't need to be -20 degrees, but something around -12/15 or so would work well.
-17 degree options here.
Bontrager and ritchey have a good range of XC stems
I used a Syntace Flatforce stem on my Turner Nitrous. It was ye only way I could get a negative rise on a 50mm.equivalent stem. Spendy though!

Very light and never had an issue with them for more XC/trail riding.

I came to say Mt Zoom too, not tried the stems but the bars are excellent
Deda also do a 70mm 17deg stem for about £20 so half the mtzoom price. Only downside is the logos are upside down.
Know anyone with a lathe? They can modify that large conical spacer in a few minutes.
Why don't you change the massive conical spacer for a normal flat one?
I've had shaped spacers that also form the top cover of the headset, so you can't just junk them (but can modify quite easily).
@steve_b77 - It's a part of the headset cover and the headset is in fine fettle at the moment. I didn't really understand this before (never have, not sure I do still) and ordered a couple smaller ones but they don't fit or leave gaps where they shouldn't.
Also it saves me from having to cut my steerer down a whole bunch
