Right ive got a new bike with a XT rear derailleur on it. My previous bike was an X9. it appears that the chain runs over a small tab in the middle of the cage, kind of like a chain guide. I dont think the x9 one did this. Thing is it makes the drive chain feel notchy. Any idea why its got this? and is it on all shimano derailleurs?

sounds like the chain hasn't been threaded through properly, shouldn't run 'over' any tabs, and should be smooth.

Should be under that tab, not over. Chain fitted wrongly.
