looking for a saddle for the mrs only her second ride on her bike in a long time but present saddle is cheap and nasty non descript thing

So many choices of ladies saddles.

If you could show us a picture of her bum then it would be much easier to recommend one 😀

Spesh saddles allow you to return them within 30days if not comfy. Same with Bontrager.

Another one here for spesh ladies saddles

Both mine and a mates other halves have them with no complaints

missus swears by Sella Italia BUT fit is very specific same with anything that has a lot of contact. Get the saddle wrong and you will probably kill off any enthusiasm for riding.

Redwoods has two specialized saddles that she was "measured" for that she gets on well with.

A number of companies will let you test ride them now though. Just reminder her that comfort comes from support in the right places rather than big lumps of squishy padding.

Also, highly padded shorts do not necessarily mean comfort. I find these are pretty good and not too bulky:

The wife has a Charge Ladle which she is happy with. They are pretty cheap to try out

or if only for occasional use and a bit more economical EBC do a womens specific gel saddle that got the thumbs up from me teen daughter

My daughter and my wife both find the Charge Ladle very comfortable.
