So im looking for some new winter bib tights and jersey for my commute, any recomendations?

Must meet the following crietria

Good down to -5, must be windproof with some water resistance, budget is £150 all in

Currently got some Gailbier Mistral winter bib tights and a Mistral pro2 jacket which have been spot on keeping me warm and dry so something like those but not them again as ive not been impressed with the stitching so would rather try another brand

Thanks

Not Endura.

Mine are pulling apart at seams after a year of light use (maybe 20-25 rides?), have some poor details like stitching on top of the pad right where my winky rubs, and YKK zips that don't have a ratchet tooth so slowly work their way open as you ride. Warm though.

Not a patch on my old Scott's and I plan Galibier or Scott next time.

For really cold commute I've taken to wearing a pair of nukeproof riding trousers over some bib tights. The trousers take the brunt of the cold wind and spray.

Only downside is a bit more faff getting dressed.

Came to say Galibier Mistral bibtights - not had any issues with mine

£150 all in I'm not sure what else is out there, unless Decathlon do something

Saddleback have some Sportful stuff on sale. I bought a few pairs, the Gore Infiniums are nice but didn't suit my skinny legs so I kept another model.

Cheers for the replies

My issue with the Gailbiers is the stitching has failed twice on the jersey and once on the bibs all within a few months, Gailbier have been great and repaired them each time (ive had to return them 3 indivdual times) but the repairs are not the nicest looking (one was on a bright outer panel section and the repair stitching wasnt like the original so it really stood out to me)

They are only used when the weather is below 5 degrees so they havent had lots of use

The stitching is failing again in one of the repair areas and in other places, i know i can send them back for repair but it means im without an item for around a week taking into account posting, repair and then being returned to me so i want to try a different brand

Cheers for the Sportful heads up, ive had Sportful and Castelli kit before and its always been top notch so will look at Saddleback's sale

Bioracer is worth a look - comes from Belgium so you might need to split orders to keep the value under the 135 threshold. I've got the Spitfire 3/4s and full protect bibs and they've fared well so far this winter.

I've been impressed with Lusso stuff. Doubt they make the ones I have anymore. Must be 5+ years old. DHB top end stuff on wiggle  can also be nice. Not sure if they have anything that fits the bill though.

Spatz? No idea but the stuff I have seen for winter riding looks nice. I know a pro who has to ride whatever the weather swears by it (and trips to calpe).

My winter tights are Pearl Izumi Amfib. They have a degree of waterproofing and are definitely warmer than my Rapha cores

I love the Sportful Fiandre Pro stuff, the nano bibs are excellent (as long as you get the ones with the windproof knees and thighs). Their neoshell jacket is superb too. Use both loads on the road but they got me comfortably through the night laps at the puffer too.

The Stolen Goat bib tights are ace,one of the nicest pads I've used but a bit more pricey.

For price Bontrager bib tights on eBay can be had new for less than £50.

Also try the Specialized bib tights.

I don't have anything that would do down to -5. Coldest I've been out in has been 2C and wouldn't want anything colder with the bottoms.

Endura FSpro 260 thermal shorts (long)
Endura leg warmers (no idea on model as the are old)
DHB thermal top
Gore infinium jacket

I wear waterproof trousers when it's sub 0.

But my commute is only 4 miles so they just go over trousers.

I have a pair of castelli perfetto tights. Warmest thing I've worn on the road. As a teacher, I will never be commuting in them 😃. I had them for about that price in a sale.

I'm L in most things and XXl in Castelli

These two in combo or on their own would sort you from about ten to minus five with a base layer. The jersey is my favourite item of cycling clothing

Same. They would be my first port of call if I had to replace them anyway.

I've got a Decathlon winter jersey which I have worn down to 0deg. C or so & it is toasty warm. An additional layer underneath should see you good to -5 or so.
Strangely they used to call it a softshell, but I don't think they do now.
The rear pockets are a bit odd as it has the standard 3 & then some additional mesh ones, but no big deal & it has quite a long drop tail.
The temp rating on the website for this is a little pessimistic in my opinion.

They also do an 'extreme' version of the same jacket which comes with a zip-in liner & a neck buff. Not sure if this is worth it over the standard one with another layer underneath.

They do size up pretty small. I'm ~170cm, ~40" chest & 34" waist - had to get the XL, as the L was too small around my chest & waist. Most other brands, I am an M fit.

had the same and they were excellent until they met a candle on the table. Size down compared to Rapha. I’m a medium Rapha and a Small PI. But AmFib are super.

Get on Wiggle and help yourself to DHB stuff.  It's brilliant kit, and insanely cheap atm.

Castelli Sorpasso Ros Wind bib tights do the job for me. Make sure its the wind version and not the normal one though. £144 at Chain Reaction and Wiggle just now.

Altura Primaloft jersey has flown under the radar they don't seem to get the attention of other brands but they are great 👍

As for bib tights I've got some ancient De Marchi ones I save for when it's proper Baltic . Only problem is if you need a wee you need 10 minutes notice , could do with a zip down the front.🙄
