Problem is, when I connect my HTC Desire via USB, it's not showing up in Windows Explorer so I can't drag files back and forth.
The USB driver appears to be OK.
I suspect something (either Windows or possibly AVG) is blocking access but I can't find anything to prove/disprove this.
Any ideas?
BTW: I'm logged on as administrator
Sorry if this is too obvious, but when connecting the usb lead to the phone, have you set the phone to 'disk use', and not 'charge only'?
Yup, Disk Drive selected (sorry, should have mentioned that...)
Don't know then. Mine works fine with Windows 7.
Are you using the correct cable?
I bought the HTC car charger, complete with coiled cable, however this does not appear to be a data cable as the unit is not recognised by the pc. Swap to the original or other data cable and all is fine.
Does HTC sync work?
have you got a firewall installed?
Yep, using correct (HTC) cable
This is weird - I'm now able to connect intermittantly by changing the USB Debugging mode on the phone [Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging].
Alternating between selected or un-selected seems to kick off an AVG scan which then results in the drive being listed in Windows Explorer. Not sure why this setting is relevant and whether it needs to be permanently in one mode or the other...
Have got HTC Sync installed but not really using it as I don't use Outlook/Outlook Express. Occasionally, I've been able to reach the sync screen but usually HTC Sync is reporting Device Not Connected.
Anyone know the relevance of the USB Debugginng mode?
have you got a firewall installed?
Yep, Windows Firewall but I've tried switching it off, without any effect. Same with disabling AVG...
Download USB tether from the market place and see if that works.
Debugging mode shouldn't make a difference, mine shows up with it on or off. It's used for things like flashing roms.
This may sound strange but after a couple of hours shouting at it this worked for me. Make sure you uninstall htc sync, download it again but don't install it. Disable your network connection in the network and sharing/manage network connections menu then install htc sync and follow instruction. I think you'll find that'll tag it ๐
Oh yeah, remember and re-enable your network connection.
Could be your USB port. Have you tried it in a different one?

Hmmm, sounds a bit random that. May try it later if I can't get this thing stable... ๐

Yep, tried 4 different USB ports on my PC, and have also tried other USB devices (ie my iPod). Granted, sometimes the USB ports don't always work straight away with my iPod, which got me thinking that something may be blocking them. I've updated drivers in the Device Manager.
