Having looked up the price for some for my 350s, it seems 35mm motorbike seals are quite a bit cheaper.

Has anyone tried?

Cheers!

A seal is a seal is a seal. If you put the dimensions into somewhere like

www.simplybearings.co.uk

You'll discover how much they really cost 😉

Hmmmm thanks @sobriety I wondered...

We all know the bike industry's fondness for proprietary parts!

Seals of the same size can be very different in application and construction. You might find some that fit but will they cause more stiction by being tighter? Let in dirt by being loser?

Motorbike seals don't have the foam rings, and also are oil seals as the forks will have a lot more oil in them than mtb forks, and a lot are upside down forks so need to have a good seal to prevent catastrophic oil loss.

So, no.

I vote 'yes'.

Aren't the foam rings separate and just, well, a foam ring? RWU motorcycle forks don't need them because there's already enough oil splashing around in there to keep things slippery, all the foam in MTB forks does is soak up a bit of oil to help lubricate the top end of the slider casting. There aren't many 35mm USD motorcycle forks either, unless small cc MX bikes use them (I have no idea).

Give it a go OP, what's it going to cost you, a tenner and a bit of time?

Thanks all for the replies.

@kayla1 I will give it a go for a tenner and no doubt some swearing ;o)

I will of course report back with my findings.

Cheers + ride safe
