Wide range 8sp?

So, the adolescent has outgrown her Trek Wahoo 26 and needs a small adult bike.

I’m not convinced front mechs are things she wants to bother with. Is there such a thing as a wide range 8sp cassette if I was converting a triple to a single ring?

as above Microshift Acolyte 12-46.

https://www.microshift.com/models/cs-h083-12-46t/

£29.99 from SJS:

MS doing matching derailleurs etc and all work and are good value

I used their 9speed wide range on my daughters bike.

There's definitely wide range 9sp from Microshift and it's relatively inexpensive.

Thanks all.

Is taking a triple down to a single and replacing the outer ring with spacers/a bash guard too much like hard work?

IME you can unscrew, discard the big ring, screw back together without needing anything new.

I think you'll need shorter chainring bolts to account for the ring missing.

Or just saw/file the teeth off of the big ring.

One of our bikes - Spec Levo hardtail came with Shimano Altus 8 speed.

It's now running 'wide range' 8 speed, retaining the Shimano shifter (could not be bothered with running new cable...) but with an Airbike 11>42 cassette (£18) plus Sunrace mech (think RDM900, but will check).

It was the most cost effective solution and works fine and dandy. The mech will work with larger cassette, but no need for such on the ebike.
