Am assuming this means Specialized.

If so, the answer to "Why" is that they appear to have backed the wrong niche and are trying to jump on the bandwagon quicksmart.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if they have ordered a load it's because they're going to start doing 650b bikes...

Specialized aren't stupid, they're pushing 29ers but if the world wants 650b then they're going to sell it aren't they.

So, you 'know' that they've ordered 650b carbon wheels, and yet you felt the need to sign up to this forum to find someone more in the know about why?

Hmm.

I met a one of the reps for Specialized UK riding one of the very rare (in the UK) carbon enduro 29ers and he said the company were definitely looking hard at 650b. that was Nov 2013

Thanks for the feed catvet. It's true that the Spe enduro is having some critics state side for having a too long wheelbase lengh. People riding wild alp trails will understand.

Sea otter would be my guess for the unveiling of a stumpy or enduro (or both) 650b.

Are we supposed to be terribly surprised that Specialized are going to do the absolutely inevitable?

Still it's good news for 650b owners to get a better range of tyres to choose from, can't come too soon.

while we are on the subject of rumour and speculation I was chatting to a bloke who knows a geezer who has a cousin who was having a beer with a guy who works in shipping who said he delivered some 26" wheels to Spec's secret test facility last month and Princess Di was working on reception and Elvis was doing the unloading.

You heard it here first

Eh? What critics? The Enduro 29" has a shorter wheelbase than most 650b AM bikes and they're sold out! Pinkbike and Vital bike of the bloomin year!

But yeah 650b SJ Evo and Enduro coming. They held out on the marketing size as long as possible but you can't give away 26" bikes to dealers Stateside these days. Shame.

If anyone can afford to run a large enough range to encompass all three wheel sizes, it's Specialized.
