.. left hand shifter (Sram X.0 Gripshift) now so stiff it is rfusing to budge unless I put all my strength and two hands on it? It was fine the last time I rode it around 3 weeks ago, on sunday it was stiff as buggery.

Probably dirt in the cables, or mech pivots starting to sieze up, we come across these far more than sticky shifters.
