Why do cows always stand on the track?

[#12550292]

Having a very pleasant ride last night along a narrow single-track across a moor when I encountered a large number of cows completely blocking the path. They wouldn't shift and as there were mothers with calves I thought discretion was the better part of valour and made a pushed detour round them.
So why do they stand on the track? It's very narrow and the vegetation seems exactly the same as the empty square miles on either side.

Just be ready to hoof it if they start running at you. You'd better steak your claim on the trail and stand your ground...

Are you joking? Pull the udder one!

More seriously perhaps you should consider a dairy free trail, you won't believe it's not singletrack.

How cud you let this happen.

Imagine grassing the cows up.

Again behaviour farmers use the path and its drier...

On cowtrackworld, they're discussing why mountain bikers always want to ride on the bit of ground they're standing on…

They are all on Strava...those tags they wear on their leg are what they use to track their efforts...

Cows I don't care about, round here as often as not it's a bull which I do go round rather than through or under (especially when it's pissing).

You know, it's always bothered me that it's OK for cattle eat and shit in the same place, yet if I curl one out at the dinner table I'M a monster.

They have to stand somewhere.

The cows maybe live there.

Why do cows always stand on the track?

Because track standing is inherently impressive.

Undoubtedly a high steaks enterprise but it could earn you a big pat on the head.
