[Closed] Why are there no bike parks in or around the Peak?

I guess the answer may be that there is a lack of forestry commission land and a lot of rideable tracks already in existence. I'm looking to take my 5 year old out more and I do find bike parks very useful for this. We've had great sessions at Coed y Brenin etc. The only place I can think of that's vaguely near is Clayton Vale or Llandegla.

Phillips park in Prestwich is between the two

Sherwood Pines, Cannock Chase, Lee Quaray, Loads of stuff up Sheffield way. Some may not be the most exciting but it's there.
As you say the great areas of FC land isn't there and peat bogs are as hard to build on as national parks really.

I'm glad they don't. I'm worried that if you get purpose build trails in the Peak, then the next step will be other user groups demanding that we get restricted to these exclusive ctrails only.

Isn't this already the case? Legally we're already restricted to the bridleways, and half of these have been flattened by 'improvements' which make them not worth riding. Not that I support a man-made trail centre in the Peak that is. There's still just enough worth riding to make a trail centre redundant. It would be far better I think to have a policy of opening up the cheeky trails in places like Macc Forest, Goyt Valley, Ladybower etc. It could remove much of the biking traffic from the walking fleshpots and reduce the amount of conflict between walkers and bikers.

We're based in Hayfield, which must sound a bit odd looking for bike parks with so many trails around us. However, they tend to be quite rocky or with big uphills. So not very friendly for a 5 year old (actually not 5 til next week) and I don't want to put him off.

Didn't know about the Prestwich park or Lee Quarry (thanks for that).

Sherwood Pines and Cannock Chase are probably just as far as Llandegla.

I may look at some of the stuff around Sheffield.

Thanks

a- we don't need any in the Peak. It has trails anyway, even though we often bitch about the useless maintenance of them.

b- certainly within the National Park it would be unlikely to be approved. Hard enough to get a sustrans path!

worth asking fellow hayfield resident Richpips about local trails, Minipips has been riding since that age and is quite useful on a bike. Nick Craig's lads are quite handy too, I think Tom was out at the world champs last week with GB Juniors?

There is talk of something happening up Bradfield way - where there is huge potential and is away from the more over-crowded parts of the Peak. The is also obvious potential around Fairholmes, but throughout the peak the emphasis seems to be on encouraging families to ride flat tracks rather than anything remotely challenging.
