I have a rare day off next tuesday so im going to go to wales, which centre would you recommend? It needs to be one with bike hire facilities as my mates going and he doesnt own a bike, hes quite fit though and ive taken him around cannock quite a few times. I have been looking at afan or CYB dont fancy llandegla as i would like a longish ride. CYB has quite a lot of trails so i wouldnt have a clue which was the best and afan seems to have whites or the wall which would you go for?

if it's just a day off, go to the closest one to get more riding time in

^^ what he said origianlly is right but if its any help then my wife did whites and really enjoyed it(as did I) - shes an experienced rider but nervous on the tech stuff - and there is lots of interest for any skill level

If your fit you should be able to do The wall as well.

Haven't been to CyB for years - my overriding memory is of too much fire road but maybe things have changed - at the time my money would have gone on the MBR trail for max fun

(used to be in Birmingham - Kings Heath - but left for the sanity of Scotland :-))

Wall 2 at Afan is 56km and 1015m of climbing, I did it in 3:30.

Seriously...head to Nant-y-Arian.
Simply excellent.
Do the Summit trail, nice bit of lunch...then do the Summit trail again!!!

For 1 days riding, you can't go wrong with CyB or Afan. If at CyB you could fit in Tarw an MBR, at Afan the W2 (whites and the wall joined up) would be my choice.

Nant yr Arian often gets overlooked, but offers something slightly different to CyB and Afan. If you do the Syfydrin trail, you'll get stunning open views and a feeling of being out there that the others can't compete with. The flipside is that the singletrack sections only happen at the start and end sections of the ride, though there's enough natural semi-rocky bits in the out-there section to keep things slightly more interesting than just a picturesque fireroad excursion.
