I have a boxed up bike to send via courier, what is the general consensus on the best (or least worst) courier?

Senditnow are good for oversize boxes and quite cheap

It's the budget version of Parcelforce

Parcelforce, but not via Senditnow IMO, it worked out about a quid cheaper but their website sucks balls (for instance- if it fails to produce the labels, there's no way to reprint them, so all you can do is cancel the order and start again. Except you can't cancel the order unless it's completed, which it won't have done because it broke at the labels section. And if you phone up their "customer services" you get a random chap in a parcelforce depot who has no idea what you're talking about. Just not worth it.

Going through a bad experience with Interparcel at the moment, however on googling them I must be one of the view remaining people in the country not to have already suffered at their hands.....
