Looking to upgrade my shimano deore, front and rear brakes(levers, discs and callipers).
My bike is an Anthem x4 2010,which is used regularly for xc,and some trail riding(inners,gt).
Brakes now require upgrade, and looking to spend between £160-£220 for full set f&r
appreciate any pointers.
Cheers j
Jonny depending on what your after, i'm going to be selling a new unused set of Formula RX Tune hydr. discbrake (180/160mm)including centrelock rotors soon. Coming off new bike as soon as i get it. If interested get in touch.
Cheers
Try Merlin cycles they do some good deals with everthong you require in the kit.
ShimanoXT from Rose Bikes. Couldn't fault the service from Rose and the brakes are fantastic.
Thanks for the info,
Not got much of a clue what to go for,Have been on Merlins cycles got good deals,
Was looking at the avid range but open to any type.
Thanks Jim will maybe have a look at you're formula's!
Issue 70 had.a good grouptest. XT top for power. Avid Juicy 7 then Hopes. They all come as kits the only thing to be careful of is the type of mounting to the frame - post or IS (tabs). Post for forks normally, IS for frame normally. And rotors are either centrelock or six bolt depending on hub.
How recent are those Deores? Modern ones are really excellent brakes when they're working well...
I've got some of the new XTs and they're sooo strong. I weigh ~100kg in my kit and can stop super quick with no real effort.
I am shocked that Deore brakes need replacing. They are fit and forget.
2012 xt, just bought from rose for 130 of my English pounds, loads of power and lovely lever feel
I didn't think the '10 X4 came with Deores. Mine came with Shimano M486 which worked OK but looked pretty agricultural.
I can personally recommend Formula RX - mine have been faultless in the 18 months I've had them (the same as my previous Formula K18 were).
I stand corrected! sorry!just had another look deore shifters,m486 brakes!
So will look at maybe new deores, but like the look of the formula rx or the step up to xt's.
Really need to do it soon been riding using only the rear.
Bled front, changed pads but still no real stopping power!
Another vote for Shimano XT (again from Rose for £130 - no rotors but you can use your existing ones). Only got them fitted last night as i got my mate to swap the hoses around but initial impressions 'out of the box' are excellent - even better than the last XT & SLX versions i run on other bikes. Lovely feel and superb stopping power at 16st.
