I was going to go with Ortlieb to match my Panniers, and I also like the map case, but its not ideal. I would also like something with side pockets and the pockets on the side of the Ortliebs are so small they seem pointless.

Whats the map case on the Vaude aqua's like?

The map holder is the key criteria.

What I want is something thats waterproof (not essential as I can put esentials in a waterproof bag) and easy to get into whilst on the move (ie Ortlieb) with a good map case (Ortlieb but better fixing so it doesn't flap about although I havent found this to be such a problem) and with proper side pockets.

Maybe I'm putting too much value on it, but I want a totally waterproof mapcase and the one on the Carradice doesnt look up to much, also the closure / opening doesn't look very 'one handed'

The Carradura one looks good, but isn't waterproof. The waterproof-ness of the handlebar bag isn't so much of an issue, its the map case thats my main priority for waterproof ness

sounds like you have already made a decision to go for ortlieb - there good too plus matches your panniers

Super C are better than the carrdura..

they also do a PVC version:
