some £7.99 chinese specials on ebay, or £30-40 for the garmin one.

is it worth the extra?

I got a Suunto one. It works.

I tried one of the cheapo eBay ones - the range on it wasn't very good which meant I struggled to connect a Tacx trainer to a laptop for using Trainer Road.

The Garmin one is a bit eyewateringly priced though, that Suunto stick might be just the ticket...

Suunto one is great, chinese cheapies work well too. Probably the same thing.

A lot of the chinese ones are USB1.0, have a look at the colour of the insert on the USB plug, most are white.

Means that they don't have the same bandwidth as a 'proper' USB2.0 one.

I started off with a cheap chinese one, was OK for speed / cadence and HR. Sometimes dropped out on HR. Then got a smart trainer and it couldn't cope.

Replaced it with a Suunto one and its rock solid now.
