My nephew is 5'7 and needs a bike. Facebook marketplace is full of very nicked looking high end bikes and what look like skip finds. eBay looks a bit more confidence inspiring. What's out there for say £250 new?

He's left it a month or two too long. There aren't many new bikes out there at all at the moment.

250 quid seems to be the magic number. everyones that's asked me has stated that budget.

Erm... wait until september, classified will be fill of bargains around that price!

Ex hire bikes from one of the bigger hirers at the end of the summer? Where are you in the world?

Was in a bike shop last week - they said the cheapest hardtail they could get stock of was £1300!

Decathlon

I think you'll be waiting on stock anywhere though

wait til the weather turns in autumn and everyone will be flogging off the bikes they just bought on a whim

Premium prices on ebay at the moment. Just sold a child's Ridgeback MX20 for £122. My fixed gear went for my reserve, and the tag-a-long has a load of watchers and likely to sell on Sunday.

I've had loads of 'buy it now offers'. Very high demand as there isn't much one can do, other than go for a bike ride !

The problem with Decathlon is limited build capacity. They open up for orders at 11pm. I've tried 3 times and failed to place an order.

I’m sure a secondhand 26 hard tail would sell for peanuts.
Where are you?

Decathlon, Halfords, Go Outdoors once things get slightly more back to normal. As above, it has probably been left it a bit late for a lockdown buy.

At the moment, everything is bringing good money.

One of the local bikeshops have said they have run out/aren't selling anything under £2k so don't bother asking!

I sold a terrible old Carrera that had no brake or gear cables fitted for £25 and had about 40 messages of people biting my arm off for it probably could have sold it for £50! It's crazy
