Had an awesome 28miler at the mynd yesterday and its made me want to do some more xc rides of a similar style. Peaks looks a bit rocky and techy for my tastes, I prefer to just blast down flowy single/double track rather than pick my way through rocks. Malverns maybe? I want some big climbs and big descents ๐ preferably midlands, I'm in Northants and around 2hrs is as far as I can be arsed to drive for a day.
Too far and I've never ridden either but the Quantocks and Long Mynd have always sounded similar to me.
Malverns are good if you know where to go (for some hidden gems)and try to avoid the weekends (or get there early morning/late afternoon) If you do all the peaks there's some pretty decent climbs which then give you some nice descents. One good thing about them is that you're never too far from civilisation should you need to get down.
I ride them every week and still finding little tracks to improve the routes.
South Wales natural riding.
There are lots of Peak rides you can do to avoid the rocky descents, its just that most of us like the Peak for exactly that so you hear about it on here. The White Peak is a bit more XC-ish/less rocky although the only time I went it was so boggy I doubt I'll ever go back.
Quantocks yes but a bit far I would imagine.
I work most weekends so weekday riding is normal for me ๐ any decent gpx loops I can follow for the Malverns? Similarly for the peaks actually. Dont mind a bit of rocks etc I just find it a bit boring if every descent is like that.
The South downs is pretty flowy generally, and no rocks!
(Not really 2hrs from Northants, but not too far to go)
