[#7187850]

The rear wheel bearings on my Whyte have given up for the second time so looking for a new wheelset. Its an 809 hardtail and these are the stock wheels that came with it.

Anyone recommend me a good solid, light , cheap (moon on a stick) 26" wheelset for mainly XC/Trail riding? Don't want to spend a fortune but presumably I won't have to spend crazy money to improve on the stock wheels

Why not just sort the bearings?

Otherwise, what is your budget?

Last time the LBS said it was beyond repair but I found another local mechanic who rebuilt the hub. Lasted less than 12 months and gone again so may be worth seeing this as an opproptunity to upgrade.

Could probably stretch to £150-£200

Quick scan through Chain reaction, with your budget these would be my choice (If you want to change both that is?)

I'd look at Superstar, I'm not keen on the cup and cone on those XT above.

I've heard mixed reviews of superstar to be honest so not sure.

The DTSwiss do look good - the 26" version is around £160 from Rose at the moment.

Presume tubeless ready is out of the question at this price point?

My Superstar build was poor, I'd still buy again. I'd just get thee LBS to check them over next time.

Ah sorry, I read 29" on the first post. Need my eyes tested!

In 26" flavour for £160. Billy bargain

Thanks for all the reponses. Been to LBS today who recommended mavic crossride for my budget. Problem is they say 11 speed and I'm running a 10 speed cassette and they don't come with QR as standard - looks like an adaptor needs to be bought from Mavic. Thats bound to push the price up

If it's an XD freehub you'll need a new freehub. This won't be a cost effective option.
