hi folks,

I was quoted £70, to...
-Strip the rim from one wheel
-Lace up that rim to a new hub.

Price includes DT Swiss Comp spokes, nipples and work.

That's reasonable, right?

cheers,
HR

Wheel build costs £25 in my LBS.

So, scaling that up + materials, £70 sounds pretty fair.

Very reasonable. Usual cost £25 to £35 labour and £1.40 to £1.90 per spoke and nipple. Extra £5 to 10 to strip an old wheel. Obviously the price ranges for spokes depend on quality and brand. You also tend to get charged a touch more labour for a boutique carbon rim as opposed a cheaper aluminium one (although I've never figured why as carbon builds up much easier as they're so much stiffer).

Sounds reasonable.. £30ish for labour, spokes vary but call it a quid per spoke for arguments sake, that's £62 if running 32 spoke.

Evans will rebuild a wheel with new spokes for £40?
Not serious surely? Maybe generic 20p spokes?

I charge £25 plus spokes so 90p for DT comps in silver going up from there so sounds about right.

Yeah Evans did mine for 40 per wheel - stripped, cleaned, rebuilt with new spokes. It says on the website (includes silver double butted spokes. Black & specialist spokes extra). They didn't charge me extra for black spokes.

Christ.. Think I'll still use my local guy, knowing what spokes retail for and knowing he knows how to tension spokes..do they use branded spokes or Ali express specials?

I've been considering using evans to build a pair of wheels, yep £40 per wheel inc spokes, I was told they would be Sapim double butted.
Until recently it used to be £30.95 per wheel!!!

I've tried, it's significantly quicker, easier and cheaper to pay somebody else and I get much better results. The only thing I cant do and I'm happy about that.
